I don’t get it. Why furries?

What’s it got to do with being a nuclear engineer though? It just seems so random, it feels like I’m missing something.
Yes, and therein lies the humor, the juxtaposition of opining in casual tone what feels implied by the speaker to be mundane and relatable but which is in fact extremely niche and specifically un-relatable.
Since a lot of Furries work in STEM, and Seattle has a ton of STEM folk, a furry that's flirting or making a nuclear innuendo joke has a much higher probability of happening in Seattle than most other places (except for maybe Portland).
I suspect they are hoping to get their hands on some radioactivity which will turn them into an animal-human hybrid.
