Rules:

Don't be awful Lemmy Guidelines Still Apply.

No direct upload images This is hosted on Lemm.ee- to post images, you must use an image upload service like Imgur to post maps.

We are agents of chaos I've created this to be the alternative to the community I used to manage on the website that shalt not be named "mapporncirclejerk"

Live and let die Meme trends happen, so please don't message mods asking to take down maps that are repetitive to a bit.

Reposts Vs. Covers Not all reposts are evil- if someone posts something that has been done years ago, it serves to bring old memes to the new users. I call these meme covers. However it can be done in excess which makes it a repost and spam. Mods will determine if a post is a cover or a repost.

No impersonating mods I can't believe I had to make this rule.

No harassing mods on an appeal We can talk it out, and we will be acting in good faith when making decisions. If you disagree with a removal, you are free to message for clarification or to appeal by giving some added context.

Bans Bans will be set to a maximum of 365 days for humans, and a minimum of 365 years for bots. I believe people can change, so if you are banned for good reason, do know that it is not permanent, it is just a way to say "take time to grow and come back when you are ready".

You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman!

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

maybe it's just me and my color blindness but that color for Victoria is far too similar to the surrounding water

[–] d00ery@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Victoria is a light pink, the water's blue so a big difference for non-colour blind me. They do look similar in shade though, but I'm not great at judging.

I'll make you a map in 7 other colorblind safe colors if you want

[–] NudeNewt@lemm.ee 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do you not have colorblind mode enabled on your device?

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My graphics card has an option to adjust for it which I've played with a bit, but even at full strength I would say it still doesn't create a satisfying amount of contrast.

If on Windows 10 I recommend using the default system color picker: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-color-filters-in-windows-43893e44-b8b3-2e27-1a29-b0c15ef0e5ce#WindowsVersion=Windows_10

If on Windows 11 use: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/enhanced-color-filter-controls-for-windows-11/

If on Mac use: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-color-filters-mchl11ddd4b3/10.15/mac/10.15

Supports MacOS Catalina 10.15 to MacOS Sequoia 15.

If on Linux, it depends.

If using a GNOME DE use: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/5589/colorblind-filters/

If using Cinammon DE use: https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/384

If using KDE plasma DE use: https://userbase.kde.org/Color_Management

This one is honestly bonkers in terms of customization, but be aware that it is very much in it's beta stage.

For XFCE and pretty much any other DE use: https://github.com/DaltonLens/DaltonLens?tab=readme-ov-file

Supports:

  • macOS: Mojave (10.14) and newer are supported (including Apple Silicon)

  • Windows: only tested on Windows 10, but anything more recent than Windows 8.1 should work

  • Linux: only tested on Ubuntu 20.04, but should work on any distribution that has gtk3 and libappind

Hope this helps, cheers!

Thank you for that extremely thorough response, I didn't know that Windows and the rest had this built in. The Windows filter seems about the same as maxing out the correction in my AMD software. I can combine the two and do indeed get better contrast on this map, but it seems to cause a loss of visible green color in other places. Well, at least now I have the shortcut from the Windows settings (Win Ctrl C) that I can toggle that on and off with if I run into another situation like this one.

In that case I'd recommend DaltonLens for more granular control. Should work perfectly for your use-case. Combine it with the default color picker and you'll be set.

Western Australia, stop bullying your younger sister South Australia.

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, naming your daughter Northern Territory is a big oof.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If the territories count, there’s a whole new world of opportunity. I have met a Christmas, and cocos or keeling sound kinda cute (albeit not my taste). I feel like Cartier and ashmore would show up in name shaming groups.

Although to be fair, they’re not on the map

[–] Tlaloc_Temporal@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Cartier sounds like a surname. Ashmore isn't that bad really, a tad old fashioned perhaps.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Tasmania sounds like an acceptable name.

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Id assume their parents were hippies, but it could play.

[–] MudMan@fedia.io 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, right? Didn't even have to mess with the map that much.

[–] kersploosh@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

"Tassie" sounds like a great name.

[–] thebigslime@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Reminds me of Cassie and Tassie in Letterkenny.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like a stripper, to be honest

.... or Territory!

Its State or Territory!

Ya missed a bit, ya heathens!

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone -1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

We're a territory, we had a referendum years ago after we got told off for being the first place in the world to bring in voluntary euthanasia laws by our lovely government in Canberra.

Referendum failed we remained a territory and can't govern ourselves fully.
