why tf does anyone still give a fuck what EA says?

[–] AlternatePersonMan@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because those assholes keep buying up good game studios and ruining everything they touch.

EA is evil, but what they does effect gamers.

There's a phrase among EA employees, "Never hired, only acquired.".

I've had the "pleasure" of going through this and have peers that have had it happen 3 times. I'm also sure that there's a few people that have had the "luck" of being acquired more than that but haven't worked directly with them.

For the record, that doesn't seem to be what Wilson said, if he said anything human-readable at all, which I'd argue he did not.

I don't have much of an interest on it either way, but I can defer you to Jason Schreier's take on it, which seems pretty well informed.

Anyone here pick this up? I'm considering giving it a go

[–] MudMan@fedia.io 12 points 2 weeks ago

No, play it later.

In the spring, when it is scheduled to come out on GOG and you get to keep it forever.

You're all welcome.

Yes. Play it now.

Imagine the quest quality of Witcher 3, with the realism of Red Dead Redemption 2, in the world of Skyrim, where the AI is smart and your choices have real consequences.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It is very notably not anything like the world of Skyrim.

The sense of exploration, scale, and open-world are similar. The dragons, magic, fantasy setting are not.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

It'll have some goddamn magic and dragons when I'm done modding it dammit

And slutty armor, as Conan intended

If you haven't played the first one, just understand that it strives for realism and unlike most RPGs, of someone for example says "meet me here at sunset" you won't be able to find them there before sunset because, they haven't left yet, and also if you don't meet them there that evening they'll be quite upset with you for standing them up

The first game's gameplay was like Morrowind mixed with aspects of Skyrim, with a focus on immersion and "realism." Combat is determined not just by stats but player skill. It's set in a real-world historical setting: 15th-century Bohemia, just prior to the Hussite Wars.

It was one of the best RPGs I've ever played, but it's very much a game that inspires love or hate, depending on your personality. It was one of the few games I preordered over the last year.

It is awesome. All the feel of the first game with performance that isn’t constantly holding it back from being fun.

If you're after a good review of the game, check out

Thanks for the link! I had known these guys split from zero punctuation, but I didn't know what their new channel was.

Many of his gripes are also why I prefer to get games like this on PC. You can usually mod away any tediousness such as overencumbrance, quicksaves, looting radiuses, etc

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Been thinking of picking it up, but I never played very much of the first one. Would you recommend I play the first game before I get this one?

[–] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 3 points 2 weeks ago

For the story, yes. For the gameplay, no.

According to reviews there is a recap of the first game in the intro for the sequel.

[–] shadowedcross@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

You might be able to appreciate the story and characters more if you play the first one, but KCD 2 is much better polished, and with the recaps, it's not absolutely necessary.
