Once you take away the veneer of civility, Target is just an overpriced Walmart.

Thoughts and prayers

I just want to take tbis moment to thank Target for their thoughtful removal of DEI policies. You see I've wanted to move for a really long time and my wife always had a requirement that anywhere we moved to would have a target nearby. It complicated the process. But now, I don't have to adhere to that requirement anymore, because we don't buy anything from them anymore. It's great. So thanks Target for showing my wife you were a lousy bunch of scum sucking greedy pigs. I've known for years, but it's nice to have proof.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 16 points 4 hours ago

Fuck Target anyway. They've always been a shit company. They just hide it.

[–] Osan@lemmy.world 11 points 4 hours ago

Boycotting and striking work we should be organising more of them world wide.

[–] Cocopanda@futurology.today 22 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I mean. I never shopped at a Target. So I’m doing my part.

[–] chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 hours ago

They're the only store around here that had a certain flavor(cherry chocolate almond) of kind ice cream bar, but I haven't been back in a long time anyway, nor do I intend to.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Dam well when the feel like making money again they can stop implying they want all their non white and straight customers to be erased.

Edit: replied to wrong thread.

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago

Target flip flopped in the stupidest way possible. It's like their top guys don't read any reports or that they already removed their diversity and thus anyone that could tell them who exactly shops their before they announced this. lmao 😂 and they can't backtrack it!

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 39 points 12 hours ago

Boycotts work. The naysayers are wrong once again.

[–] llama@lemmy.zip 27 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

15 years ago Target specialized in creating a shopping experience where the consumer could discover trendy, fun, useful items that they couldn't find in other similar retailers. Today it's all the same merchandise you could find anywhere and there's no value proposition to shop at Target.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Ah yes, Target.

When you think you are too good to go to Wal-Mart, and want to pay 2x-4x the price of price for the same exact stuff.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

Lots of overlap with Canadian Tire in that respect

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

And just like every retailer, they've vertically integrated their supply chain so that they can shove their bullshit brands at you

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world -5 points 4 hours ago

News blurb on radio today says they are shutting down all US stores

[–] flamekhan@lemmy.world 30 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

We used to spend a good amount of money at Target and now we won't go anywhere near it. It was great for gift shopping and seasonal stuff but we've figured out better options with retailers that don't have gross values.

[–] MiyamotoKnows@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

So where did you shift your buying to? Hopefully not Walmart or Amazon, who are far worse. Small businesses are not available options in most of America.

I've only ever lived once place where there was a Target conveniently close, but it was in a shopping center that was an absolute nightmare to get into and out of. I would still order from them online here and there, mostly clothes. But the last few times I've ordered clothes online from Target, it's been absolute crap quality. My last order actually qualified as false advertising. I ordered a button up shirt. It turned out to be velcro, with only one or two buttons at the very top. And the shirt was so short, it exposed the bottom of my belly button. Prior to that, I ordered a pack of underwear that stunk so bad of chemicals, it made me nauseous.

So, regardless of all the other crap going on with Target, I'd already stopped shopping there.

[–] Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Haven't been in a target since they bent the knee, and won't till they fully reinstate Diversity Equity and Inclusion policies.

[–] DNSpapi@lemmy.world 0 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Oh my god, you're why these companies get away with this shit. How about not give your business at all? Target showed their true colors and you think by them half-assedly putting in a policy back in when it can just be easily removed is enough for you?

This country is a fucking joke and so are you. Goddamn.

[–] Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

How about you blow your holier than thou bullshit out some other hole?

[–] FilthyHookerSpit@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago

I don't think he's wrong. By shopping there once they make the desired changes, you signal to the company what you want to see from them. Other companies notice too. You reward them with your business. But by boycotting then all together, then they have no reason to make progressive policies. I think it's better trying to steer the shitty company than letting them get worse.

[–] MellowYellow13@lemmy.world 23 points 14 hours ago

Oh no! Anyways...

[–] Plurrbear@lemmy.world 25 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

As a MN native… fuck Target! I tried until they laid off a bunch of people I know who didn’t wanna work in the DEAD downtown MPLS scene when given the new “rule” … savage!

[–] dditty@lemm.ee 14 points 14 hours ago

Same here. It sucks since Target was/is better than Wal Mart and the Daytons legacy still had them doing a lot of philanthropic donations. But yeah I haven't shopped at Target in probably 4-5 months now.

Go nazi, declare bankruptcy

[–] Take_your_zync@eviltoast.org 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I specifically bought tomboyx boxer briefs for women at target to support their lgbt inclusivity before they dropped dei. Now I won't buy anything from them at all. I know target wasn't perfect but I wanted there to be more options available for people that need them and target was offering that with dei. Now, fuck em. They don't support the people that make their business possible.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 12 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

To be fair to target most business is just talk when it comes to these types of things.

Consumers need to understand that corporate support for any particular initiative begins and ends with how it affects the bottom line.

Disney, Google, even Costco cannot actually care about any of these things. The corporate incentives do not allow for it.

[–] ibelieveinthehousehippo@lemmy.ca 15 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I know it's not genuine. I still demand the performance though.

[–] grysbok@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

The performance serves as a barometer for how, idk, accepted a thing is. Having LGBTQ displays made me, an LGBTQ person, feel like Corporations thought we were a market worth wooing. Taking that and DEI away is a kick in the teeth. It feels worse than never having the displays or DEI programs in the first place.
