It’s wild when you see it on film. Usually it’s the line guy just standing there so you think the tanks were rolling up and just stopped. But they tried to get around lol

Honestly tho. This is what the world should be doing to anyone who has more food than they can eat, more toys, works less, and makes decisions that affect your own life.

We are the Citadel of Ricks but we long forgot that we are all, the same Rick.

Reminder that Donald Trump admires the Tiananmen Square massacre and told Playboy all about it in an interview right after it happened

Reminder that Israel crushes so many people under tanks that it traumatizes their soldiers, and slavish devotion to them is bipartisan.

It's really echoey in here today.e

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I think it's pretty awesome that the tank drivers didn't flatten the guy.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They did, however, flatten many other students with tanks during that protest.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

They didn't, they beat them to death in the side streets and disappeared known leaders, get it right!

Also the diplomatic cable that refers to armor units attacking the protestors in the Square which was denied by journalists on site specified APCs, jeez.

Fyi to others: You can search images of bikes completely flattened with blood all around them and other pictures of protesters laying on the ground among bikes with injuries no human could inflict without something very heavy. I remember first seeing these pictures in the 2000s. Horrific.

Why did you cut off the part where he climbs up the tank and starts yelling at the tank driver?

Why is the clip zoomed in to not show that the tank is driving away from the square?

[–] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

there are multiple versions of the clip and the associated lore floating around and if you don't spend enough time with what happened at the time you can easily be convinced of a variety of viewpoints

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The cut off clip is meant to imply a lot of things which did not happen.

Occam's razor, you're on the Internet, bad crops are practically a meme. Personally, I distinctly remember watching the entire uncropped video multiple times throughout grade school and high school in the US

Wait until the tankies come in here to tell you that he's a patriot trying to stop them from leaving the square so they could continue to keep the peace

[–] ObstreperousCanadian@lemmy.ca 36 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Can the tankies even see the gif?

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

This gif that's objectively depicting tanks leaving the square?

In the US they run over protesters. Just sayin.

[–] arrow74@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Based on some of the other comments you're making, yes more than one country can be bad. And the crazy part is it doesn't justify either country, both are still bad

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Is there a forty year old truncated clip of a protestor not being harmed in America that you endlessly reposted, including every time America is mentioned? Or do you just do that with China?

That they are leaving the square is literally an undisputable fact though. Are undisputed facts "tankie" now?

Jeff Widener, the photographer who took this photo, describes the protests. He wasn't feeling well because a protester had smashed him in the head with a rock. His description starts at 2m30s.

He’s lucky it isn’t an Israeli tank, else he would have gotten run over.

Americans (in 1775): Declares war with one of the most powerful empires in history over taxes

The French: Decapitates the upper classes due to hoarding wealth and creating class imbalance

Haitians: Fights against their former masters in the name of freedom and the end of slavery

The French (again): Fights back against one of the most cruel regimes in history to free their occupied homeland from Nazi rule

Americans (now): "Oh I hope that if the message on my sign is passive aggressive enough the fascists will leave the government out of shame."

It's not that bad for white people yet

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The Boston Tea party got started because of a tax cut from the British Empire. It was a whole different bunch declaring war than what people are lead to believe.
