My brother in law, without skipping a beat: "obviously he meant Micronesia"

My reply, apparently not enough to get a response: "So you're okay with a president who's so cognitively vacant he can't tell the difference between two very different sounding words?"

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 3 points 6 hours ago

Obviously got his countries mixed up - it's the Microplastesia that is invading every bit of USA (and indeed the world).

was totally unaware that fsm was a toy manufacturing powerhouse.

As well as the fact Micronesia is also not a country...

It’s okay, we all know Trump wouldn’t know this at all.

He obviously meant Micronauts...

Man thought the Barbie movie was a documentary and is ready to nuke the country Mattel for making a woke movie in their country.

Mfw Mattel secedes from the union

[–] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 17 points 11 hours ago (5 children)

This one isn't so bad. Simple misspoken word. Meant to say "company" not "country." He referenced their "CEO" a moment later.

Literally a zillion valid thing to complain about Trump. This was nothing.

[–] Merva@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago

For anybody else in his position it would have been a pretty big deal. But because it is Trump and we know how he is with words (as in not at all), this is "nothing".

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

I kinda agree. I think the much bigger story would be the fact that he's threatening a singular company with a specific tariff of they don't do what he likes. I don't even think that's legal, especially without congressional approval tho I could be wrong. In any case if we start going down the road of picking and choosing which specific companies get to have tariffs or not we are going to fly so fast down the slippery slope of corruption my ass will break the sound barrier

So I guess Barbieland is part of the Axis of Evil now?

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Contextually, there's no indication he had confused Mattel with a country, likely just said the word because of speech habit when talking about tariffs. To think he confused it, you'd have to subscribe to the idea he thinks it's a country that makes toys and is run by an executive, or had an ear piece correct him mid-sentence.

He fucks up multiple times a day. There's much more low-hanging fruit than this. Come on, peeps.

I'm tired, boss.

I wonder if he thinks Barbieland from the Barbie movie is the country of Mattel 🤔

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 4 hours ago

Or the coined term barbeheimer

[–] ziggurat@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Its just Alzheimer's, and hes trying to talk like he thinks people doesn't see it.

His father also had it. And it is linked to both bad diet and genetics

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Hasn't he been seen picking up the phone when it's not ringing

No, but he strayed further.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

He's 100% cognitive. Problem is, he's stupid.

[–] Liome@pawb.social 5 points 10 hours ago

Both can be true.
