You've heard the "prophecy": next year is going to be the year of the Linux desktop, right? Linux is no longer the niche hobby of bearded sysadmins and free software evangelists that it was a decade ago! Modern distributions like Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, and Linux Mint are sleek, accessible, and — dare I say it — mainstream-adjacent.

Linux is ready for professional work, including video editing, and it even manages to maintain a slight market share advantage over macOS among gamers, according to the Steam Hardware & Software Survey.

However, it's not ready to dethrone Windows. At least, not yet!

Kind of frustrating that one of the main points against Linux is anti cheat, which basically comes down to Spyware that assumes you are a hacker if you run Linux, so the game publishers ban your account. That isn't a Linux problem, since often these are games that run fine on Linux.

This article is great. As a system administrator by trade, I always start replying to posts where Linux enthusiasts can't understand why more people don't use it, then delete it as it's too long. This article checks all the boxes in explaining the many challenges that Linux presents to normal users.
