Now how am I supposed to get this to my desk without either spilling it all over or burning my lips trying to slurp it here. I've been drinking coffee for at least 25 years and I still do this to myself at least 3 times a week.

Use a straw if available...

[–] cloudless@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago

That would be worse than burning the lips.

Top-notch meniscus

[–] Zier@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago

Get another cup an only fill them both halfway full. You will now be known as "2 cup larry".

Let it there for 5 min. Then slurp it. Then move it.

This is the way. Also if its too hot, that means your coffee is over 80 degrees Celsius. Which is not good

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Pour some into the nearby sink.

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago

I don't waste good coffee.

You sip from the edge, duh. I figured this out in grade school, jeez.

You need a cup with an expandable section, sort of like luggage has

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Or maybe I just need to start drinking straight from the jug.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 4 points 3 days ago

That could work too, spare yourself washing mugs

[–] cloudless@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago

Kitchen paper.

[–] Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

Wick it. Carefully touch the corner of a paper towel to the coffee, and let the coffee draw up into the paper towel. Repeat until the coffee is low enough for you to have a good chance at passing an agility check.

Move your coffee machine to your desk so you can make and pour coffee without having to move the mug!

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I live in a small granny cottage and "my desk" means the kitchen table 2.5 meters away. I technically could move it to my desk and it would still remain in the kitchen.

A very long straw!

I'd probably nurse it a little until it was safe enough to transport. Although youd have to wait for it to cool first.

[–] Mesophar@pawb.social 4 points 3 days ago

When this happens to me, I sip it right then and there, burning my lips as punishment for letting it get to that point. I no longer have lips, but now it rarely gets to that point for me anymore.

Mostly /s but coffee is usually not so hot that I can't take a few sips of shame to get it to a more manageable level.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I've tweaked my coffee machine (okay, a simple Senseo) so it always gives exactly the right amount so something like this won't happen every.

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 5 points 3 days ago

When I make coffee just for myself, I always measure out the same amount of water and this never happens. But my SO is slightly less autistic about it than I am and makes inconsistent amounts when brewing for the two of us - and I just can’t stand the thought of pouring even a drop of coffee down the drain. So, I spill it on the table and floor instead.

There’s a scene at the beginning of Friendship that seems made for you.
