It is ultimately a way to further cripple 3rd part apps. Thus, making the official Reddit app look better by comparison. It’s not certain if Reddit will get rid of porn, because while porn sub-reddits don’t generate ad revenue, a not insignificant portion of Reddit’s user-base visit porn sub-reddits, making Reddit a good one-stop-shop for a user’s media related need. So while porn doesn’t generate ad revenue, it brings users, users who also visit other non-porn sub-reddits that do.

It still works using my own API key
are there apps that are letting users create their own API keys and plug them in?
There are community tweaks, especially for Apollo, that let you insert your API key.
Revanced Manager allows you to patch a few third party apps with your own API key if you're on android
Yup. I used it to patch sync with its own api key and remove all ads. It's been working flawlessly, including nsfw content after creating my own sub to mod.
I'm not fully switching to lemmy until sync comes over, then Reddit can finally fuck off entirely.

Well, actually, you can view it through Infinity.
Which is kind of funny because one of the reasons Reddit got so big was because of the pornography
Spez is looking after /r/anal harder than anyone else is.
Unfortunately, his crappy app wouldn't let him fap in peace.
Joey for Android still works.
Oh sweet, it still works? I uninstalled it on the 1st because I found muscle memory had me opening it and I didn't want the dev racking up fees on my behalf. Hope he figured it out, I know he really poured time keeping that app going.
You can't look at Reddit at all on third party apps now. Or did I miss a change to their API change?
I think they made some exception for "educational" applications, but access has to be granted on a case-by-case basis, and let's say those a very far and between.
Shit I can’t even use a third party app they all went dark, hence why I’m here
