❗️OCHA: West Bank faces worst settler violence in five years during olive harvest

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Saturday that this year’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank has seen the highest level of settler violence in five years, with 126 attacks recorded across 70 Palestinian towns and villages.

According to OCHA, more than 4,000 olive trees and saplings were vandalized, and 60 incidents involved direct assaults on Palestinian civilians. At least 17 people were injured and 19 vehicles damaged in the past week alone.

The UN agency said illegal settlers from newly established outposts have imposed access restrictions on Palestinian farmers, preventing them from reaching their groves during the harvest.

The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission documented 259 combined attacks by Israeli soldiers and settlers during the current harvest season, which began in mid-October.

Israeli violence across the occupied West Bank has sharply escalated since October 2023, leaving over 1,060 Palestinians dead and more than 10,000 injured, according to Palestinian officials.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “clearly seeking excuses to violate the ceasefire and restart the genocide,” urging Tel Aviv to abide by the truce to preserve “hope for lasting peace.”

Speaking alongside Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, Fidan said Turkiye is working under the Sharm el-Sheikh Declaration to make the ceasefire permanent and will host a Gaza roadmap meeting on 3 November.

Tsahkna called Gaza’s situation “truly catastrophic” and stressed that “significant pressure must be applied on Israel,” while describing Turkiye as a “highly valuable partner” and backing its EU bid.

About 40 international humanitarian organizations, including Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam, and the Norwegian Refugee Council, accused Israel of obstructing humanitarian aid to Gaza, warning that these restrictions are worsening the humanitarian crisis affecting over two million Palestinians.
