I've set up this community for anarchists who want access to a reddit-like fediverse instance, without being beholden to tankie control, and even better, one run by anarchists.

Nothing against raddle btw, they're good peeps (I'm there as well) but I personally prefer my social media distributed, if possible.

So come over and hang. If anyone wants to help with the burden of mod rights as well, lemme know.

David Rolfe Graeber (/ˈɡreɪbər/; February 12, 1961 – September 2, 2020) was an American anthropologist and anarchist activist. His influential work in economic anthropology, particularly his books Debt: The First 5,000 Years (2011), Bullshit Jobs (2018), and The Dawn of Everything (2021), and his leading role in the Occupy movement, earned him recognition as one of the foremost anthropologists and left-wing thinkers of his time.

"Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority”

and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”

and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay."

All political government must necessarily become despotic, because all government tends to become centralized in the hands of the few, who breed corruption among themselves and in a very short time disconnect themselves from the body of the people. The American republic is a good illustration.

While it would be easy to dismiss this as CrimethInc [hereforth the Outlet] cautiously mitigating any potential liability if self-immolation generalizes, the rejection of the framework of martyrdom demands attention. The question is not whether Aaron qualifies as a shahid within the Palestinian context, although demonstrators in Yemen have proclaimed Aaron a “martyr of humanity” and an argument can be made for him having become an anarchist martyr in the lineage of Louis Lingg, Avalon, and Mikhail Vasilievich Zhlobitsky. The bigger issue: the Outlet’s assertion that an individual’s death, particularly in the context of the US, is the “worst of all possible certainties” reveals a deep disconnect with the context of this entire decolonial struggle. In the days following October 7th, anti-colonial anarchist thinkers such as Zoé Samudzi argued that the figure of the martyr marked a fundamental contradiction for the secular left’s ability to fully comprehend and act in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance. The martyrs constitute a force in the present for all who live and continue to struggle. Aaron framed his self-immolation as “not that extreme” compared to the ascension to martyrdom of tens of thousands in Gaza. By implying that Aaron’s choice was too extreme, the Outlet dishonors the reality of the struggle within Palestine and undercuts the potential of Aaron’s sacrifice.

I remember being really disappointed that the mods there refused to leave reddit during the protests last June. Today I happened to check reddit and I see the engagement appears to have plummeted.

So it seems the peeps decided to vote with their feet, which is great! However I know there hasn't been a lot of influx in alternative places like this community, !anarchism@slrpnk.net or even raddle.me.

So where have all the online anarchists gone? What do you think :D

I tried to interact with lemmygrad using this dbzer0 account but I can't. They also seem to refuse accepting my signup request. when I tried searching "lemmygrad" locally, I found relevant only this comment from captain @db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com appearing on the attached screenshot. I tried to follow the comment's post but it is not to be found. Just wanted to know the lore.

The recent doxing of a Proud Boy school board candidate by the Midwest Youth Liberation Front highlights the work being done by teenage antifascists.

Article is from 2021, but I'd never heard of the "Youth Liberation Front" before.
