Before We Begin
Hello deck-ers, this guide walks you through installing Waydroid, a tool to run Android apps on your Steam Deck. Links are included below for troubleshooting and updates. Enjoy ;)

Step 1: Set Up a Password

Your Steam Deck’s terminal (Konsole) will ask for a password during installation. If you haven’t set one yet:

  1. Switch to Desktop Mode and open the Konsole app (found in the taskbar or applications menu).
  2. Type passwd and press Enter.
  3. Create a password. For simplicity, a 4-digit code like 9876 works, but use something stronger if security matters to you, (as it should).
    • Note: The password won’t show as you type, this is not a bug.
    • Re-enter the password when prompted to confirm.

Why? This password grants temporary "sudo" access to install software.

Step 2: Install Waydroid

Prerequisite: Ensure your Steam Deck is connected to the internet.

  1. Open Konsole (still in Desktop Mode).

  2. Copy and paste these commands one by one, waiting for each to finish:

Command 1 – Download the Installer:

    cd ~/ && git clone https://github.com/ryanrudolfoba/steamos-waydroid-installer

This downloads the necessary files to your home folder.

Command 2 – Run the Installer:

    cd ~/steamos-waydroid-installer && chmod +x steamos-waydroid-installer.sh && ./steamos-waydroid-installer.sh

This makes the script executable and starts the installation.

  3. Wait for the magic to happen!

    • The installer sets up Waydroid and applies custom configurations.
    • Installation takes ~5 minutes (varies with internet speed).
    • When finished, close Konsole and return to Game Mode.

Step 3: Launch Waydroid

  1. In Game Mode, navigate to your Library > Non-Steam Games.
  2. Find and launch the script named Android_Waydroid_Cage.sh.
  3. Waydroid will boot, give it a moment to initialize.

Need to Uninstall?

  1. Back in Desktop Mode, open Konsole.
  2. Paste these commands:
    cd ~/Android_Waydroid && ./uninstall.sh

This removes Waydroid and its files.

Troubleshooting & Tips

  • Issues? Check the official GitHub for known bugs, compatibility notes, and updates.
  • Keyboard/Mouse Not Working? Some users report needing a Bluetooth or USB input device for setup.
  • Performance: Close background apps in Desktop Mode and try again, otherwise I recommend checking opened issues over on github.

Enjoy your Android apps on Steam Deck! 🎮
Credits to ryanrudolfoba and the Waydroid contributors, cool guys!

Last tip: If this is your thing, check the AndroidTV installation option for a cool docked experience !!!

Acestream on Steamdeck (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) by rando@sh.itjust.works to c/steamdeckpirates@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Hi guys,

I had looked everywhere to find a guide to get Acestream on the Steamdeck or even Linux and really didn't find anything good. So with the wonders of wine I have a relatively easy way to run Acestream on the Steamdeck.

  1. Download the Acestream stable Windows installer from their site.
  2. Download Lutris if you do not already have it.
  3. In lutris hit the plus sign and select 'Install a Windows game from executable' and install from the Acestream installer you downloaded.
  4. Here it will actually install acestream but once you hit finish after the installation, Lutris will just stall out. This is fine just hit 'Abort' and uncheck 'Remove game files' to keep all the files it just installed. Then hit Yes to cancel installation
  5. Now in Lutris hit the plus sign again but this time select 'Add locally installed game' and use the following settings
  6. Next will be the game options tab, you will need to find where your lutris games get installed at. From there in the acestream folder the acestream player executable is found in acestream/drive_c/users//AppData/Roaming/ACEStream/player/ace_player.exe
  7. I also set the working directory to whatever folder your lutris acestream folder is installed
  8. Last go to the 'Runner options' tab and I found System wine worked the best. GE and others seem to have audio issues.
  9. Hit save then you should be good to go to run it.

I tried to get this working in gamemode and it does not work unfortunately. I just run it in desktop mode and it works perfectly fine.

You could also pretty much do the same thing in bottles or wine if you prefer it.

Happy streaming!

Best recent guide on Citron, a Switch Emulator. Seems to perform nicely!

This is a filler post, in the meantime I'm writting multiple step-by-step guides myself for the upcoming wiki.

Keep sailing!

Hello deck-ers?!

I'm shaytan. After some time away from the internet, and now leaving behind reddit, I'm trying to revive this community as I very recently got a steamdeck, but I've been passionate about linux, linux gaming, and hardware for a while.

My plans for this place are to keep it aligned with piracy and steamdeck, but also take a lot more time into helping general support questions, and sharing resources and content related to the steamdeck and handheld gaming.

I'll try to prepare some posts for this place, and if possible have a good wiki soon!

Any help is welcome!

Roadmap
  • 1st -> ~~Mild overhaul of rules and look by the 2nd of February~~ Done.
  • 2nd -> General opening post for a proper re-start, 5th of February
  • 3rd -> Some pre-prepared posts/small guides dedicated to new users starting the 6th at a consistency of 1 a week at minimum.
  • 4rd-> A proper wiki for all things related to the steamdeck by the end of February at worst
  • 5th -> Some more hardware specific and more technical guides by march

As a disclaimer, I want this place to remain piracy oriented, but also more valuable for everyday use, so ideally this place should have more general deck content between piracy posts

So I downloaded Cyberpunk 2077 from DODI and I ran the serup.exe through steam and installed via Proton but now I can't figure out how to run the game. What am I doing wrong?

I was looking to try and get the Steam Deck's keyboard themes, the official ones but without getting them via the official methods. The main reason is that when getting them through the official methods they don't work offline but CSSloader themes do work offline and have no DRM.

I got papers please from Steamrips and when I add it to Steam as a none steam game, which I assume you still have to do there's no icon or anything.

If I modify it there still isn't an icon.

I tried on Windows and it does the same and the "target" remains blank too.

What could cause this?

Which Lutris wine version is the best for them?

I've always appreciated gog releases. I have an account there and installing their games on the steam deck is pretty straight forward from desktop mode. If given the option, use a good old games released game instead of a steamrip. It'll be better in the long run.

I know there are some tools including firejail and bindtointerface on standard Linux Distros, but they don't run in userland, so whenever the deck updates they will be overwritten.

Anyone have any ideas how to block access on a Steam Deck?

I recently discovered ForSpoken from dodirepack and I really enjoy it. That a kind of RPG with a hero who feel is a normal person. Little exemple her reaction to seeing a dragon the first time was a F bomb, it really made me laugh. I was even able to run it at max quality with protonGE

I wrote a little essay a few ago about pirating games on SteamDeck, I am not sur it is allowed here. I didn't saw any rules against. If it is feel free to pm me I will remove my post. Hope this help other with low budget.

No need get window. You need somes tools though.

From the stock app market (called discover) :

  • Transmission
  • Lutris
  • ProtonUp-QT to install ProtonGE

From GitHub:

  • Decky (and the addon SteamGridDB)

On desktop mode.

I download my games as torrent from dodirepack or fitgirl with the software transmission(from stock appshop).

Once I have a game I use Lutris(from stock appshop) to execute the installer. Install games on :Z Wich is the steals file system.

Then I add the game to steam on desktop mode.

I set the compatibility in the game options mode on proton or protonGE.

And I rename the game to their steamid to be able to search for contrôler config. (Find steam game I'd on the site SteamDB)

In game mode

I then setup images for the games with the addon SteamGridDB installed from Decky (and addon loader for steamdeck)

If I have trouble running game I use protonGE which I installed with ProtonUp-QT (from stock appshop)
