If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

This is only the second angriest of its 3 forms!

Here's the other 2:

It also has "I'm too big to be eaten" mode.

You're talking the super skinny one, right?

That's the "nothing to see here, I am just an ugly tree branch" look. It is so ugly you can't help but like it, like those world's ugliest cat/dog contests.

And then once it's feeling relaxed, it just goes back to that oh so adorable fluffball again. It's crazy! 🤪

I'm hoping to see one of these guys next month. I'm headed to NY and there's a couple places that claim to have this owl.

Yeah, exactly!

They're so cute... I totally get that "so ugly it's cute" feeling.

Have fun in NY! Hopefully you take some awesome pics :D

If I see anything, I'll be sure to share it!

I still want to go see the Flaco tribute at the Historical Society as well, but that will likely be a second trip

I can’t believe they’re even the same bird. Pictures 1 and 2 look so different! xD

All the owls will do variations of these things, but the patterning of the White Faces Scops seems perfect for our viewing pleasure. It's been an Internet sensation for years now as the "Transformer Owl."
