Summary

China has now imposed export controls on a range of critical rare earth minerals and magnets, dealing a major blow to the US.

"Rare earths" are a group of 17 chemically similar elements that are crucial to the manufacture of many high-tech products. Everything you can switch on or off likely runs on rare earths.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that China accounts for about 61% of rare earth production and 92% of their processing.

A US Geological report notes that between 2020 and 2023, the US relied on China for 70% of its imports of all rare earth compounds and metals.

I'm not a Brit, so there's that...

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well then you're either australian, (which is cool, love you guys) or south african, and maybe can talk shit, or definitely also can't.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Definitely not South African...

Not Aussie either

You said hard cunt and yank, I suppose you could be Canadian but they tend not to use the word cunt. And if you're anything else then you're definitely trying to be like someone from one of those countries. Why?

I'm disappointed in your poor geographical knowledge

I'm definitely not Canadian

You didn't answer the question. Where are you from? What have you done to prevent fascism?

And poor geographical knowledge? How so? In what way? I'm working off 2 words and I fully suspect you're lying. Your rage against America isn't necessarily misplaced, as long as it's well founded and isn't hypocritical. But let's not act like America is the only country that's done evil. And demonizing the entire population when less than half of the populace supports it only hurts the friends trying to right the ship. Shitting on all Americans like that is more likely to push more people to the right, than help our cause. Vitriol only separated people, trust me, I've been here for 40 years and watched as the zipper of cohesion has undone at different rates over the years.

I know you have rage. I do too. It's well founded. But point that rage where it belongs, and encourage those working to save us as a global society and species. To do that, we have to cut out the cancer. But currently that cancer is in the nervous system of the world. If you cut out the nervous system to cure the cancer, we all die anyways. You understand what I'm saying? Don't be trump, alienating allies never gets what you want. Just be cognizant of that.

Alright well then that does go to my American ignorance because we often lump you in with Australia, apologies for that.

Edit: however, I would also say that that doesn't have anything to do with geographical knowledge.
