Translation: you walked in, said something stupid, had someone look at you like you were stupid, felt stupid, then did what the clerk said to do so you wouldn't look more stupid.
So many of these things have the vibe of thinking about comebacks the next morning in the shower.
"The jerk store called, they're running out of you!"
And also they're not going to the dentist for similar stupid reasons and will probably get a bone infection in their face.
