Five years later, Wayland remains an excessively focused project for a modern display server. Wayland remains a fad, and many open-source applications remain unoptimized for Wayland.

no. only troglodytes ever really had that opinion. everyone else understood the necessity of the project.

I mean, it started inferior because it was brand new.

But I get what you mean, even though I was grumpy about the idea at the time.

It's been ready for prime time for a while now

During the time period of that post id been running wayland exclusively for a few years. It was usuable/stable in 2018. Had annoyances and bugs due to adoption but nothing major or unmanageable mostly small Firefox issues.

I suspect most people's issues were Nvidia problems tbh.
