Maybe we should also ask anyone who isn’t white to stay home. You know, since they believe brown people are invading the US.
Just once, I'd like to see us play the PR game, even a little bit, rather than deliberately handing them the victory on that front.
I get that this isn't what they're saying, but it really does feel like it. Talk to any immigrant and you'll realize they're usually incredibly proud of their heritage and the challenges they faced in coming to the US.
Saying its bad optics to be proud of your origins feels like it stands against the reason for these protests in the first place. Latinos, legal or not, are members of our community and deserve to be treated like humans.
How are you going to pretend to advocate for a community and ask them to hide and not express themselves? In diverse cities you see flags from different nationalities everywhere. This is some white savior shit if I've ever seen it. "It'll be easier to save you if you weren't so you".
