Not using steam, also I'm on Linux.

I got a CRC error twice now when launching factorio space age. First time I fixed it by replacing the mentioned file with a non corrupted one from the installer archive.

Worked but now it's happening again, a different tree.jpg this time. Haven't tried anything yet because I think it might happen again in a few days.

Is my SSD or ram fried or could there be another explanation?

Has this happened to anyone before?

Searching online I found people had this issue with mods, but nobody had it with the space age mods.

Edit: this is the exact error this time:

Failed to load mods: IDAT: CRC error: __base__/graphics/entity/tree/09/tree-09-d-normal.png

this is a screenshot of the corrupt file. Lemmy won't accept it as an image so I had to go this way:

this is what it's supposed to look like:

edit2: this time replacing this image worked again. Factorio launches. Let's see how long it takes until I see this error again.

I bought it on their website and used that install. I don't want to use steam if I don't have to, generally it's cumbersome imo, more than just an installed game.

I think you're gonna be out of luck given steam has an integrity check built in that you could use and most linux games use steam.

I degress. This is most likely a corrupted download imo. Try installing it completely fresh. As in, clean all files created by the installer and run it again.

Maybe bad ram. it can give checksum errors. run memtest to find out.

maybe bad ssd, like you said. Check ssd health with nvmi cli or smart ctl or similar.

also, i thought you just get a zip file with all the game files.
