Motorsport in general? Or Aston signing this particular guy?
Having a driver development programme when one driver is welded to his seat and the other one drank at the fountain of youth.
Right but as long as Sonny Stroll is one driver, theyβre going to want a βPlatinumβ driver in the other car to make use of whatever Newey concocts. Unless they still think Stroll is champion material.
Driver Academies are useful for other purposes as well. Binding juniors to yourself to at least have the leverage/managing relationship, controlling which competitor team in F1 or which other motorsports series they end up at. Aston benefits from having drivers for their WEC program for example.
