I know that it is a trans symbol, but I couldn't find out why. Is there an actual reason or was it just chosen randomly?
From what I can tell, bit of both. It started as a meme on Tumblr, gained popularity because it's easily available worldwide (wherever there's an Ikea), and became gay because Tumblr big gay. The colors nicely matching their
made it more popular among a certain subset of the community, and now everyone agrees it's a symbol of trans (support).
