Doesn't the kid's name need to be Paint, not Finger, for the joke to work? Or am I missing something
Yeah. You are missing the ecolution of the meme to a nonsensical level where kid named finger is now a more successful meme than the original.

I'm starting to make peace with it, but you're in the naughty list.
There was never an original with "kid named paint", it was always "kid names finger", and r/OkBuddyChicanery just had so much brain damage this became the top meme of all time.
