tl;dr...city spent $1.5 million to install, halted construction, is removing most of what's been installed, costing $500k to remove.
Even cyclists didn't like them, apparently...

They're giving in to road-raging SUV-driving MAGAdiots, which are abundant in Vista and most of north SD County.

It's a fucking 3 minute video, how about you watch it before you get on your high horse? Cyclist don't like it because vertical obstructions can affect them and it does nothing to stop car influence

I watched it. I agree. It's conservative idiots. The reasons the single cyclist who actually gets to say anything gives are ridiculous. Cyclists routinely avoid all sorts of obstructions without issue. It's not hard to not catch your handlebars on a bollard in a 4 foot wide bike lane. And while the bollards wouldn't stop a driver intent on murdering a cyclist, they will do a lot to keep drivers more alert of where their space ends and the cyclists' begins, stopping them from absentmindedly drifting into the bike lane.

Of course, there's a lot to criticize about the bike lanes. But the only real explaination for so much public outcry isn't legitimate concerns about safety, but culture war bullshit.

For any bike lane project, no matter how well designed, there will always be that one vehicular cyclist type spouting a lot of nonsense. Of course the TV news features that one person, not the professional transport planners nor the multitudes of cyclists in support of the project. Not every news story needs to have two sides.

(Also, the bike lane is wider than 4'.)
