I tend to agree that chesee on burgers is just worse. I usually order a "burger no cheese" and occasionally I get a "so a hamburger?" but like the number of times I've ordered "hamburger" and gotten cheese lol.

Anyway, McDonalds cheese is fucking vile even compared to the usual shitty american cheese that tends to go on burgers. I mean, I guess you could say that about everything for McDonalds, but the cheese actually is plastic.

20 years later I still remember this infuriating customer exchange at mcdonalds. Customer asks for a plain cheeseburger. Bearing in mind that a cheeseburger is 10p more than a hamburger.

"Is that a cheeseburger or a hamburger?" "Just a plain cheeseburger with nothing on it" "OK".

Customer comes back 10 minutes later

"there's cheese on that I said nothing on it" "So a hamburger instead" "No just a fucking cheeseburger with nothing on it no cheese either are you fucking stupid no fucking wonder you work at mcdonakds you thick fucking prick are you being fucking cheeky?"

My friends. The burger the customer left with was not as plain as it looked.

Italian McDonald's cheese is fine. It is not the worst cheese I've ever tasted, and sometimes they do limited sandwiches with provolone or asiago. The asiago fried balls are awesome!

So fun fact, Italy has stricter laws regarding what can legally be called cheese. Meaning for McDonald's to call it cheese on the burger, it needs to actually be cheese.

The American singles McDonald's uses in the US and presumably other 3rd world countries is reportedly 60% real cheese and a bunch of other crap. Which more than passes as cheese according to the FDA, which only requires 51% real cheese content to be labeled Cheese. Kraft Singles, America's favorite American cheese product don't meet this requirement, and are notably not labeled as cheese.

The only upside to Kraft singles is they are one of if not the best types of "cheese" to melt. Since it's basically just a premade slab of emulsifiers and whey.

While it's not cheese it's also not not cheese. If you want actual cheese it's awful for sure. But it does have a very good use case and gets a lot more hate than it deserves.

Kraft single are a VERY useful tool to have for things like grilled cheese or omelets. You should realistically add some real cheese to go with it. But still don't sleep on Kraft singles.

We have very strict rules about cheese, yes. Including massive monopolies on certain types, where exactly one company is allowed to procude and sell a certain cheese legally (ex. parmisan). This protected cheese type is also tracked and each wheel of cheese is indexed into an internal blockchain https://web.archive.org/web/20220519011134/https://www.foodandwine.com/news/parmigiano-reggiano-fraud-micro-transponder-rinds-digital-label . Companies reselling or using Parmiggiano Reggiano (the only company that can legally produce parmisan) must also be approved.

As we were talking about McDonald's, the "chicken and parmisan" Italy exclusive wrap includes every single logo required by law, and uses the original cheese. Burger King does it too with the Italy exclusive Italian King (that also has Pecorino Romano, another protected and monopolized cheese). For both items all logos can be found in the mobile app, websites and ordering totems.

Is it Italian or EU-wide regulation? 'Cause it tastes alright in Germany too, if you like the too well done patties and the 'inoffensive' sauces that is

[–] SSUPII@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

We follow the general EU regulations, but also have our own much stricter rules. https://sopuli.xyz/comment/18001654
