I'mma be honest with you guys, I don't get either. And none of the maths either.
Left is the Pythagorean equation. Pretty simple, basic equation that's easy to use and apply.
Right is an elegant mathematical proof, so a little more "attractive" if you like maths I suppose. ๐
Left is basic algebra/geometry that allows anyone to find a basic square angle. It's used daily in construction. You can learn how to use it today by searching "345 triangle"
Super useful for anyone, even meatheads like me.
Pythagorean theorem
I still don't get it, doesn't a square have four 90 degree angles? I'm probably misunderstanding, I've never done any sort of calculations in English ever. I'll Google.

You know, oddly enough, my old ass math deficient brain recognizes the explanation and its application, but not the name or expression. Props to my educators, I might not know all the details, but I can still utilize the principles.
The one on the left is sort of meaningless without a picture of a triangle, so don't feel bad.
