Ah, thank you! I keep wondering where I'm getting lost, because from context I figured he was saying something like that and kept trying to edit it in my mind to make sense.
The problem I was having, now that I am less hopped up on cold meds, is that I was reading the italicized bit happening inside the theoretical scenario. So I was reading him as saying "if I was a pathetic sack of shit for months and you told me off and then I came on to you, I'd still be into you." Which, like, yeah. You just came on to her. But when he says "my reaction" he's referring to a role reversal where she's a sack of shit instead. I knew that had to be the joke!
But since I couldn't get it to read correctly in my head, I kept wondering if I was missing a different joke.
