From what I understand of animation, plenty of people in the industry were involved with animated porn at one point or another. Hell, some of the artists might head home at the end of the day to draw something freaky for their online following. Particularly because animation studios don’t pay well.
There are a lot of artists that started their career with adult things, it's not uncommon and it's not a bad thing either but in the case of OPM the director said himself that he's somewhat inexperienced, especially with action shows like OPM. Adult anime is also known for its very poor animation quality. Many people are angry because not only we got a studio that can't produce anything of S1 level but also they didn't even hire experienced people.
It would be hilarious if they still manage to outclass season 2.
