men are disposable. it sucks but that’s where this expectation comes from.

it is bleak and accurate. it isn’t a reflection of how i feel about men or that i think it is good we see them as disposable but.. society shows they are.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That's wrong. Every single adult human represents a giant investment of time and resources. People take time to grow up and learn and take up an education. Even babies cost a great effort to produce.

You cannot discard a large amount of people without causing a large amount of damage to society. You seem to have a deep schism with reality.

Biologically, men are disposable. Just by the mechanics of reproduction, a large loss of women is much more devastating to population stability than a large loss of men. I can spell it out, but it should be obvious.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No they are not. Raising a child is more work than inseminating a woman. A child requires years of resources to grow and thrive.

Your world view is not just bleak, but also wrong. Humans aren't born as fully fledged beings. The gender ratio is not an accident of nature.

Raising a child is more work than inseminating a woman.

So? What does that have to do with anything?

i literally don’t know what you are responding to because it seems like you’re addressing something completely different.

men are disposable, meaning their lives are not as valuable??? i mean.. men in the US have to sign up with the military at age 18. cause fuck ‘em, let them die.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That doesn't mean you are disposable. A draft is possible in most countries in time of need and some even removed gender restrictions. But the US hasn't fought a defensive war at home in a long time, so I get your resentment. But this does not mean you are worthless in a vacuum. that's an insane generalization.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This country treats men as being disposable. I don’t know what your issue is.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No it doesn't. There isn't even a draft here.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

...that is far from the only example of men being disposable lol. idk why you are so weirdly adamant this country doesn't treat men like they are disposable when it does, objectively. men are always expected to sacrifice themselves.

did you mean “how so?,” because i can point to centuries of data where men were head of household and patriarchal. do you know the phrase “women and children first?” perfect example of men being seen as sacrificial when expectations are high.

I literally cringed at this shit. Men feel the need to be such victims these days, it's pathetic. My whole life I've never once felt disposable, to the contrary, I've felt extremely valued, respected, and loved. Might be a you problem.

This is like women saying "women are just seen as baby makers", it's equally as cringe.

When did I say you were?

Also, if you treat men as disposable that's on you. I've never felt that way, and I'm a vet ffs.

Women aren't seen as disposable? They get worse health care. They are left with pregnancies that will kill them. They have to fight for equality.

This is wild ..

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 1 points 5 days ago

i don’t treat men as disposable. congrats that you haven’t felt that way. that doesn’t mean it isn’t the default in our society.

…women are seen as baby makers by a significant amount of people and we have cultural pressures for women to have kids. it is so talked about it is a trope in our entertainment; the woman who is constantly asked when she is going to have a baby is an example of this.

women are seen as baby makers by a significant amount of people

I said JUST seen as baby makers, you conveniently missed that key word. Pretty dishonest.

the woman who is constantly asked when she is going to have a baby is an example of this

Lol who is the woman? My partner has been asked this maybe twice, because a lot of women have kids, not because they seem them as just baby makers.

You ignore the core of my statement for weak deflection

alright i’m not arguing with you anymore
