I dunno, not even an old franchise but even with Avatar the Last Airbender ... they keep trying to retell Aang's story when they could do so many others stories within the universe and give nods to the original. Repeatedly doing the same storyline makes the universe feel smaller.

update: Although ... now that I think about there have been franchises that have expanded poorly ... Rings of Power ... Alien: Earth. Yes I know there are fans of both and I love that you guys love it. However, I don't think either have been accepted largely by the fandom.

What? Avatar is like 20 years old, had a second series years later that explored the changed world a generation later, and has had only live action adaptations of the original story

This does not seem like a good example...

I liked Legend of Korra even more than Last Airbender—and I quite liked LA

That's fair.

I was mainly talking about the movie and netflix series.

I considered the original and series and Korra locked in together as they were made by the original creators and we were mainly talking about offshoots.

Kora was pretty good, but as usual everyone compares it to the original classic.

I liked Korra too. I liked the aesthetics and call backs ... they didn't feel as "in your face". It doesn't have the majesty of the original series, but I liked it still!
