I can see the point, but I'd rather be doing something actually productive. Fortunately my job actually delivers value to people.

You are likely underpaid for the work you do because you derive satisfaction from your job. Western society has decided as a whole that the more you can provide directly back to the world the less you should be paid. You are cheating the rest of the world's employees, who's jobs grind them into nothing with endless bullshit, by both being paid AND enjoying the work you do.
