Air defense missiles are supposed to have a proximity fuse, such that the missile destroys the target even if it is not a direct hit. Either the fuse here failed, or the drone was too small of an object to trigger it.

And one would expect the missile to detonate before arriving at the drone. My understanding is that they normally detonate towards the front, to create a sort of shotgun effect.

Still, what a crazy video, you can see the drone wobble from the pressure.

unless missile is very very fast (Mach 3-5 and up) most of fragments go to the sides, or at least that's how can you make the best use of explosive. both size and weight are quite limited in small SAMs
