Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted, clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts: 1

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
    • If you feel strongly that you want politics back, please volunteer as a mod.
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report the message goes away and you never worry about it.

If there's EET for eastern european time and CET for central european time, we should have a WET time. I guess in the shower there already is.

Oh my god thank you! I'm forever using wet instead of GMT now

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Completely! Didn't know it existed either till I checked. Much more logical than GMT.

Or Universal Time Coordinated

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To be fair, there's a slight difference between GMT and UTC: GMT becomes BST (in the UK) during summer, while UTC doesn't follow Daylight Saving Time and is tied specifically to the atomic clock.

GMT doesn't become BST as far as I'm aware, GMT is UTC+0 all year round, and BST is UTC+1 all year round, it's just that in the summer the UK switches from GMT to BST.

I mean if you specify GMT, one could assume that you need to apply DST during summer, while UTC is garanteed to be static.

Funny enough, it’s actually Universal Coordinated Time (UTC).

Oof. Thanks for the correction!

Love that it is called western european, when only three european countries use it.

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's because the other one sees itself as an island in the middle of the Atlantic.

My point was supposed to be about the main users of the tine zone being western african countries, yet the name being western eropean time zone.

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

OK yes that is indeed odd. Apparently Morocco is aspirationally European.

Let's get everybody on WET, in fact, let's just call it UTC and be done with time zones.

You can get wet in my timezone
