Honestly... I know it was probably not on purpose (this time), but the Merino sub really lifted the team and we started playing more aggressively. I wouldn't be surprised if Mikel continues this trend: use players like Sterling, Rice, Odegaard, as workhorses to tire the opposition, then strategically sub on Merino during the second half depending on the gamestate.
