The mods at 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone decided they didnt like the rules at Lemmy.blahaj.zone, and wanted to move to Lemmy.world.

Lemmy.world is.... We'll just say not great for lgbtqia+, especially in consideration of the "teach the controversy" rule that was coming from the admins and is "currently being reworded".

Those mods closed 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone, and tried to force everyone to .world. Thus was met with... Disagreement.

They reopened 196@Lemmy.blahaj.zone, but the damage was done, and trust was lost. !onehundredninetysix@lemmy.blahaj.zone was created as the safe alternative from the mods who wanted the ability to allow problematic commenters.

So thats about the story there.

Can you explain how world is notbgreat for LGBT people?

Or is this just about the whole neopronoun thing?

[–] Comrade_Spood@slrpnk.net 16 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You prove the point by saying "just the neopronoun thing"

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I am lgbtq and am not a fan of neo pronounce. Mostly though because in my mother tounge they dont fit in dynamicly at all.

Doesnt mean i am a danger to people like that lol

[–] Comrade_Spood@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Listen, I ain't huge on neo-pronouns but I use them anyways because I respect and care about people enough to use their preferred pronouns because no matter your reasons for not liking them, it doesn't out weight the harm and disrespect you are doing to the other person. It is misgendering plain and simple, there is no real difference between misgendering someone who uses neopronouns and misgendering someone who doesn't.

[–] pixeltree@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

Yep yep yep. I don't like em either but that doesn't matter

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Comrade_Spood@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yes, because your phrasing shows your lack of care around bigotry towards people who use neopronouns. Its misgendering plain and simple, no different than if you misgendered a transwoman or transman. It should carry that same weight. And if it doesn't then you are not a trans ally because you are not supporting trans rights, just the ones that fit within your view of normalcy. Purposely misgendering anyone for any reason is insulting, disrespectful, and harmful.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Please take a reality check.

I litterally just said the words "the whole neopronoun thing" to refer to the past drama about neopronouns. Now you are accusing me of being a bigot because saying those words shows "lack of care".

[–] Comrade_Spood@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago

That drama happened in part BECAUSE .world has a problem not moderating enough against transphobia.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

God i love lemmy

[–] ekZepp@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's in the name, they'll make 196 communities in total.

[–] DerArzt@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

This is the way

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

19684 is a 196 comm where sex doesn't exist.

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 month ago

Literulely 19(6)84

[–] virku@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I have no idea what 196 means. My attempts to google it seams to mean some sort of stream og conciousness. So does it mean post anything you like?

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 41 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Once, there was a Reddit sub called 195 that was just named after the dorm number of the roommates who founded it. It got bigger than they intended and they shut it down, so 196 was made.

The only rule of 196 is to post before you leave, which is why most of the posts say “rule”.

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So we could have used 197 instead?

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

that would have been so much better than onehundredandninetysix

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

There was beef witht he 197 comm on reddit, it was just used as 196 but with laxer bigotry rules.

[–] PeaceNBullets@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Before you leave what? For the day?

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Ie if a 196 post shows up, and you enter it, you’re now supposed to add a post to 196

I believe the original “rule” is relayed to a whiteboard on the dorm room door

You put something on it when you left, drew a picture, added to it.

The rule was “post before you leave”

Ie take a penny/leave a penny

[–] drolex@sopuli.xyz 20 points 1 month ago

It's a prophecy. When they reach 196 196-themed communities, 196 years of rule will begin.

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

A sinful place

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I've blocked every single one 🤷 It's just not my cup of tea and it's more noise in my feed.

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I don't know what to do with this information

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 9 points 1 month ago
[–] atro_city@fedia.io 8 points 1 month ago

Keep on truckin' friendo

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago
[–] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That does not seem appropriate.

[–] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Call them a type of fish perhaps?

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 month ago

I need to shop around for apps again and find one that allows you to hide communities from the feed instead of outright blocking them. Because I'd like to still visit the onehundredandninetysix community from time to time, just not have it showing up in feeds. Because especially in Blåhaj, it just overpowers everything else in the local feed, so you barely get to see the topics that the instance actually revolves around. And now there's fucking two of them.

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm tempted to make a 196 piefed feed of just Lemmy communities so you can all be Spartacus.

[–] Laurentide@pawb.social 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

We have a 196 now.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Definitely a too many cooks in the kitchen situation 🤣

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

Not really, another user explained it, but 196 at blahaj and world needed to be splintered from because of the mods, and the one on pawb is sprcifically for furry memes. 19684 i think also has a specific gimmick but im not sure what it is. So none of them are really interchangeable

[–] threeduck@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

This episode originally aired in 1999. The N64 was still current gen hardware, google was only a year old, Bill Clinton was the US President, the first iPod was still 2 years away.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Hey, that's Squidward Gary!

"......meOW."
