Yeah.... Convincing Americans to buy American made goods is supposed to be the whole point of tariffs.

Avoiding buying anything not strictly necessary is probably the best move. Maybe also try to buy non essentials used at garage sales and Craigslist.

That's a double edge sword. Keep the US gov from collecting a tariff from you, yes. But you do without and replacing said item with a domestic good still benefits him in terms of tariffs increasing American business. There is no winning here while Trump is in office.

The winning move is for a significant portion of the population to cut as much discretionary spending as possible. We will need the savings for the recession anyway.

Granted, ceasing discretionary spending at a significant fraction is likely to trigger/deepen a recession.
