The 2025 National Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation, issued as Executive Order 14187, may appear to be a standard statement about protecting children. But beneath its surface lies something much more dangerous. This is not a neutral policy. It is a weaponized document. It marks a new phase in the government’s campaign to erase trans lives, criminalize care, and enforce a rigid, religiously coded vision of identity. It is a calculated escalation in a cultural purge, and it follows a chilling historical pattern.
In Nazi Germany, the idea of “protecting children” was central to the propaganda used to justify the persecution of LGBTQ people. Gay men and trans individuals were painted as threats to the moral fabric of the nation. The regime claimed they were corrupting youth, weakening society, and endangering the racial purity of the Aryan ideal. These false narratives laid the foundation for brutal policies. Paragraph 175 was used to criminalize queer existence. LGBTQ institutions were raided and destroyed. Public culture was erased.
Executive Order 14187 follows that same roadmap. It reframes “gender ideology” as abuse and suggests that trans people, especially trans youth, are inherently dangerous. It does not merely express disapproval. It recasts identity itself as a threat. By criminalizing care and condemning self-expression, the state positions itself as the final judge of who is allowed to exist.
This is not just rhetoric. The Order seeks to eliminate trans people from public life entirely. It proposes bans on public schools teaching about gender identity. It threatens to strip funding from any institution that affirms trans youth or offers gender-affirming care. These moves are not based on public health, education, or medical science. They are about erasure. They aim to cut trans youth off from information, support, and the systems that help them survive.
Even more disturbing is the language used throughout the Order. Terms like “gender insanity,” “sexual mutilation,” and “evil lies” are not neutral policy terms. They are hate speech written into government policy. They dehumanize. They incite fear. They create the conditions for violence. This tactic is not new. Nazi propaganda used similar language to depict LGBTQ people as mentally unstable, immoral, and dangerous to social order. When the state labels your existence as madness, it is only a matter of time before it treats your rights as optional.
Religion is used as both justification and enforcement. The Order invokes Christian nationalist language, stating that children are “perfect exactly the way God made you.” But this is not an affirmation of worth. It is a theological weapon used to erase trans identity. By enshrining one specific religious worldview in federal policy, the state is imposing doctrine in place of rights. This mirrors the Nazi use of moral rhetoric and family values to justify exclusion and repression.
One of the most alarming features of EO 14187 is its direct attack on gender-affirming care. It threatens doctors, hospitals, and entire health systems with defunding and criminal penalties. This echoes the destruction of the Institute for Sexual Science in 1933, one of the earliest targets of the Nazi regime. The institute was a pioneering center for LGBTQ health and research. It was shut down, its library was burned, and its staff were persecuted. What EO 14187 proposes is not different in purpose. It seeks to dismantle every support system that makes trans life possible.
The Order also promotes a rigid, patriarchal vision of family. It insists that “there is no substitute for a strong mother and father.” This is not simply opinion. It is policy aimed at delegitimizing LGBTQ families and imposing a single model of life that excludes anyone who doesn’t fit. The Nazi regime did the same. It celebrated the so-called ideal family while treating all deviation from it as a threat to the nation. The goal was not just cultural control. It was total control.
Executive Order 14187 must be understood for what it is. This is not a fringe policy or a symbolic gesture. It is a structural attempt to dehumanize an entire group of people. It uses the language of protection to justify persecution. It disguises bigotry as virtue. It prepares the legal and cultural ground for wider repression.
History is not abstract. It lives in the patterns we repeat. Genocide does not begin with violence. It begins with laws. It begins with propaganda. It begins when the state decides who is worthy of dignity and who is not.
We must resist this—not just politically, but morally. We must speak the truth before truth becomes illegal to say. We must protect those who are being targeted before their names are erased. We must act now, not later. Because the path is already being paved.
Never Again is Now.
