When Trump tariffs cause a recession.

[–] suite403@lemmy.world 39 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

We vote out all Republicans because they destroyed the economy. Democrats set economy on recovery path. We vote out all democrats because the recovery wasn't near fast enough, republicans undo all recovery. Rinse and repeat.

… that’s assuming the elections won’t be rigged at the polls or by a billionaire…

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"If" they cause a recession?

Raphael, you'll be fucking lucky if the economy just stops at recession.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

It takes 3 years of recession to become a depression. It won’t be declared before the midterms, and I hope it doesn’t happen at all, but those chickens may come home to roost right as the next presidential election starts to get into full swing.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Thing is, the economic indicators will still be there.

If there's been two full years of recession because of GOP policies, what do you think the odds are they'll go into a third year if the GOP is allowed to stay in power?

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

No doubt, it’s just the “D” word wouldn’t be official until, oh, about the 2028 presidential conventions.

[–] CheeryLBottom@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Raphael. I don't know who this Ted is

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The only way we have a chance at accountability is if we get a midterm bloodbath and flip the house and Senate. Then we need to impeach Trump and every one he's appointed, and who's in his cabinet for treason, and follow through all the way to the public executions.

Then we need to go after the people who funded Trump and his PAC's, strip them of their citizenship and nationalize their assets.

Musk, Zuckerberg, Besos, they're all going to need to be made examples of

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago

unfortunately many of the senate isnt available til '28 and '30, best is stop it at the house.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is this Ted Cruz or captain obvious?

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

It's Raphael "Captain Obvious" Cancun-Cruz

[–] skvlp@lemm.ee 48 points 1 day ago

Aw, poor fascist… No, fuck you, Ted.

[–] ddash@lemmy.dbzer0.com 40 points 1 day ago

The rest of the world is hoping the bloodbath comes earlier, tbh.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Senator Rand Paul said something similar earlier.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/04/05/rand-paul-trump-tariff-canada/82943622007/

"Tariffs have... led to political decimation. When (President William) McKinley most famously put tariffs on in 1890, they lost 50% of their seats in the next election," Paul told reporters a day after Trump's announcement, later adding "So they’re not only bad economically; they’re bad politically."

[–] pwalshj@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trumps all; "Have this McKimmley wiseass fired."

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

McKinley is actually Trump's idol. On his very first day back in office one of his first EOs was to rename Mount Denali to Mount McKinley. it isn't a coincidence that Trump also loves tariffs.

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What a great guy! So glad he finally spoke up for the regular people! I really hope he's elected again and maybe even becomes president! or even better he just kills himself!

[–] sporkler@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

he spoke up in concern for his own job, if the grease stops flowing in he may actually live in the state he's supposed to be representing.

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago

It’s so cute, these people pretending there will be free and fair elections come the midterms

[–] solrize@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Tja@programming.dev 18 points 1 day ago

And if it's not summer, he'll flee to cancun.

[–] Kayday@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If "bloodbath" = Republicans losing influence, does "blue balls" = Democrats losing?

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Nah it’s gotta be a Democrat speaking up for the people, since it seems not to happen very often.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

If you listen to Ted Cruz more, things will slowly begin to make sense, as you lose your sanity.
