Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I read some weird fanfiction a friend dared me to read (which I now regret) it involved a man holding his girlfriend in his lap with her back to his chest. the man was on cocaine which allowed him to stay awake for much longer than normal. The man started flexing his pecs up against her back constantly, changing up the pattern so her brain couldn't get used to it. she did something bad, so he was doing it to kill her via sleep deprivation. he kept this up for over a week and she ended up dying of sleep deprivation.

If that happened irl, would it be possible? This article seems to suggest it's possible to voluntarily stay awake until you die but it's from the Dailymail so who knows if it's even a true story xD

Well, death from lack of sleep is a damn rare thing. In the cases I'm aware of, there were other factors involved.

Being able to keep someone awake via flexing of muscles only, that gets dubious as hell. At some point, the victim is going to just pass out, and nothing that subtle is going to wake them back up unless there's something else going on.

Also, the guy using stimulants is more likely to die from lack of sleep plus the drugs than the woman would be just from lack of sleep.

Also, after a week , both would likely have died from dehydration before sleep could be a factor. They'd also be laying in their own urine and feces.

While I don't doubt there's people that could lay in their own filth that long, what isn't going to happen is them laying there unaffected by it.

In other words, as a piece of fiction, it's a unique idea. But it's utterly implausible, and impossible in any realistic sense.

I'm not aware of actual death occurring from sleep deprivation, just serious cognitive issues. That guy would die first though if it can be fatal, because the coke it would take to do so would add a lot of strain to his systems that she wouldn't be enduring. That fanfic sounds both evil and really stupid.

I love this question but its really testing the limits of this communities name 😂

Do you have a link to that fan fiction?

Could pec flexes keep a person awake like that though? I've slept on a loud plane before and through pain.
