Its amazing how quickly you realise that you don't need something when you're forced to stop using it.
Australia's got a law, and I'm dreading the day I need to give Google more information in order to keep using YouTube. Certain YouTube channels are really important to me.
If they are this important, I don't blame you. I can do this sacrifice.

From what I could gather, there is no mention of any specific site enforcing the use of this new tool at any specific date.
Feel free to correct me OP.
Without this app, you could have restricted functionality. So the EU is kinda forcing it.
Like I said, nothing in this or any other article I could find during a quick search has any specifics where and when any restrictions are enacted. So no more cause for alarm than any other day.
It's possible to watch Youtube if you don't care about commenting, adult, or members only videos.
On Linux, I use Freetube. On Android, PipePipe.
I don't know, how this EU thing will look. But these are some options, yeah.

The platforms could resolve the investigation by producing forms of age verification deemed effective by EU regulators. But if the complaint is upheld they could be fined up to 6% of global annual turnover.
