Technically internal US news, but as it's really of interest to non-US citizens, leaving it up.

[–] Mouette@jlai.lu 9 points 1 day ago

Yeah really interressing, I was definitively looking for a way to pay 5M to immigrate to the big clown show that is US lmao

[–] NotProLemmy@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unrelated, but why is your username green? Red usernames mean admin, but what does green mean?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Green means I'm one of the Moderators here. Some apps even put a little "M" next to it.

Thank you. By definition, immigration has to involve multiple countries, IMO...

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He will do this today, and deport them later.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago

Rinse and repeat for infinite profit.

[–] Pnut@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He'll take the money and imprison you anyways. We have all been seeing exactly how he reacts for multiple decades. Right?

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Rich people don’t get imprisoned in the United States shitshow. Lawlessness for the wealthy cutthroat capitalism for the rest of us

Im only open for trade. You can have it and I'll take your life in your country.

[–] psivchaz@reddthat.com 10 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I'll do a swap for free for, if I'm being honest with myself, any country that you can buy a bidet in.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 8 points 3 days ago

Don't swap for free. You should have an auction - the highest bidet wins.

As a non-American I don't think I'd buy US residency even for five dollars. But do come cross the Atlantic!

[–] neomachino@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

$1 and a bag of crickets, final offer.

Open to negotiations...

Who has $5m and wants to live in a nascent autocracy? What a shithole country.

We're gonna get flooded with UAE princes or whatever. We'll be having those poop parties that the streamers who go over there get caught up in.

My favorite part,

Trump administration officials have suggested that the card will replace the EB-5 immigrant investor visa programme, which grants permanent residency to immigrants who invest at least $1.05m in the US, or $800,000 in designated economically distressed areas.

So since the 90s anyone with $1 million has been able to buy/invest their way in.

This "new gold card" costs $5 million.

So it costs five times as much, it's just a bribe and not an investment. I'm guessing putting together a business plan costs less than $4 million.

So the obvious question becomes... What type of person is willing to spend $5 million, but not $1 million. (And I'm guessing less oversight.)

[–] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

$1 from 1990 is worth $2.50 today. So it's only twice as expensive, not 5 times

[–] tobis@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Except it’s still $1 million as of today, if I’m reading this right.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Correct, the program started in the early 90s, but the cost today is $1 million.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 66 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There have been other instances of bribery by/of government "officials" during my 70yrs...

But never has the bribery been so openly blatantly in-your-face fuck-you-can't-do-anything-about-it as is being done by this miserable stunted stupid sorry attempt at a human.

Words alone simply fail to convey my hatred and disgust of these fuckers. Nor of my sorrow and disdain for the depths to which the US had plunged.

🤦‍♀️ 🤡 🖕 💩

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 24 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Golden visas aren't really that extraordinary, many countries have something similar. It's just a slap in the face to everyone else that has to jump through an increasing amount of hoops just to get a green card to see that you can just skip the line if you're wealthy enough (which has really always been the case on some level, but not that blatant).

This way terrorists can by bypass all the rules etc and get citizenship. Just bribe the Moron-in-chief. Brilliant!

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 24 points 3 days ago

The USA was already not a serious country but this is so pathetic that it wouldn't make it into a movie script for being too far-fetched.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

And the grift continues.

That's all America is now. One big grift. Everyone trying to grift each other for scraps while the prolific grifters grift us all.

[–] onlyhall@aussie.zone 12 points 3 days ago

so let me get this straight, they're deporting the poor immigrants, but letting the rich ones in? Makes sense /s

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Like the article says, it's probably just a replacement for EB-5 visas, which many countries have.

Fuckin' inflation on that bitch though, went from just over a mil in investment to a straight up $5m fee. Where does the fee go? No one knooooowwwwwwsssssss

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago (6 children)

Someone said in another thread that you don't have to invest anymore, just park your money somewhere. I bet trump coins are included in the list of parking destinations.

Ha Ha Ha, If they paid me 5 million I might consider visiting the USA but only maybe.

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

I hope everyone always calls ICE on them, whenever someone notices these rich immigrants.

Even if they don't take them into custody, wasting both their time would be a good start.

[–] Vari@lemm.ee 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I ate the onion. Then got very sad when I realized it was real

[–] icelimit@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

The onion is really falling behind.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Any non-US citizen who has this much discretionary money to spend on Trump's dumbass card, already has the resources and network to become a US citizen already if they want

“News” on Lemmy.world is for just US news, because course it is.

[–] mazzilius_marsti@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

oh the yuge biggie gold card

[–] Laser@feddit.org 5 points 3 days ago

It is the best card. A lot of people are saying it. Tremendous. Not like the weak Biden card.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But what if they're brown?

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

They'll just get deported later. Great deal for the US.

[–] doug@lemmy.today 7 points 3 days ago

Someone ddos or hack this fucking thing asap, please. Is his password still maga2024?
