A difficult read. Bored me to tears.

Glad I'm not the only one. I read the first part and stopped, because I was getting nothing out of it. I have no intention of finishing that book.

Wow, never heard this opinion about Don Quixote.

Are you being sarcastic? I really don't know. Some people love the book, but it's also a tough read if you aren't already familiar with the context and pop-culture references. It doesn't follow a traditional narrative structure, and the end just sort of ends. Characters are introduced and then forgotten, or they reappear later with different attitudes and motivations. Cervantes also explicitly describes himself as an unreliable narrator.

I love it, but it's not an easy recommendation for everyone.

Sarcastic? No. But I don't know Spanish, maybe in original it isn't that easy to read. I read it in my native language. It was a long time ago when I was a kid, so I don't remember details, but I don't remember any problems with plot structure or personages either. I remember it as a set of loosely tied scenes, and that was fine by me.

Reading it in Spanish is a pain in the ass even for a native speaker, book is from the 1600s so you can imagine the language is really different to what it is today. I imagine there must be some version in "current language", but in school we were told to read the original and it was a pain, didn't get past the first quarter then and never tried reading it again

If you read it as a kid without problems, you were most likely either a particularly gifted kid or reading an abridgement
