What is the best degoogled tablet for an artist

what is the best tablet for iodeOS, GrapheneOS and LineageOS

  • with smooth stylus support that is as good as apple pen
    • palm rejection
    • pressure sensitive stylus
    • works well for krita / excalidraw / xournalapp
    • latency
  • at least 16GB RAM and 256GB storage

For iodeOS, it doesn't seem to support any tablet device officially

For GrapheneOS, the only choice is google pixel tablet (or maybe pixel fold). However

For LineageOS

  • What tablet+stylus+LineageOS has the best performance?
  • What tablet+stylus+LineageOS has the best balance between price and performance?
  • Can someone share their stylus experience on krita / excalidraw / xournalapp?

Sincere thanks

Why Android though rather than Linux proper if your main apps are these?

It's not fully featured but the remarkable series of epaper tablets are supposed to be pretty good and run a Linux fork. The supernote family run a version of Android that's very stripped down and doesn't require an account or an Internet connection ever.

No color proper though. I have the rM 2 and the new rM Pro and its amazing to sketch notes but draw art... not really.

Yeah I have the Kobo eBook reader that's also an e-ink tablet and that's the same, good as a little sketchbook but it only has like 4 colours on it.

will look into that

Murena released a tablet with /e/OS, and it's also possible to install it on other tablets. It's still quite early after the release so I am not sure there will be reviews from artists on their specific use of the tablet but you can consider it another option.

Edit: didn't UBPorts release a tablet version of Ubuntu Touch?

I haven't heard of this before. The name was curious "Pixel" so I compared it to the Google Pixel tablet and it's basically identical except for the WiFi chip. You could get a Google Pixel tablet for way cheaper and install Graphene. The Murena tablet seems like a ripoff and it has an account too (not sure if it's optional)

I'm afraid I will have to agree with with @sic_semper_tyrannis@lemmy.today Murena tablet seems to be too expensive and less featured compared with pixel tablet + grapheneOS

Ubuntu touch could be an alternative though

please check What is the best degoogled tablet for an artist? - Lemmy.World as it is updated

  • ipad
    • I realize my title is confusing, when I say degoogle I really meant completely Open Source and private.
    • ipad with network disabled?
      • not feasible in my use case
      • apple backdoor is highly likely in my opnion
      • Of course I don't have any proof, but I would assume it runs camera and microphone without us knowing even when the network is disabled. The data is collected and processed locally and send to apple server when network is enabled
        • speech recognition is integrated in many app and sold to advertiser
        • I doubt apple could resist the temptation of money and the threat from government not to activate microphone and camera without us knowing
    • apple is as disgusting as google
  • but of course if this is the only choice ...

If you are this paranoid, you should be using pen/pencil and paper.

I would write a rebuttal to each point, but I don’t care enough to do so.

So other people can read it. Not everyone follows cross posts.
