Plex remote Pass (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 5 days ago) by dontbelievethis@sh.itjust.works to c/plex@lemmy.ml

So a friend(a) of mine is running a plex server. They gave me and another friend(b) access to it.

friend(b) can watch everything just fine without a subscription but everytime i want to watch something i get the alert to buy a remote pass.

I read that i could be a bug that should be resolved after a restart of the server but this didn't resolve it at all.

the thing is that i have some streams that i started which i can resume watching without a problem. I just cant start a new stream from the beginning, even if i have seen the stream before.

Does anybody else has/had similar problems or knows something about whats going on?

EDIT: Okay so I could get around it with a htpc-client. No idea why, it just works.

Does your host have a Plex pass? If not, you'll need a remote pass to watch from outside the host's network. Or your host needs a plex pass. They implemented this a while ago.

Yes, the host has a Plex pass and another user, who has the same relation to the host as me, has no problems.

Haven't experienced this myself, but I would try to do some more troubleshooting. Do you get the problem remotely in both the browser and the phone app? Have you tried to create a new account and link that as a guest to the plex server, and does that work? Hopefully trying some of these things out, you can isolate the issue and find a working solution.

I'm waiting right now for the host to have time to troubleshoot some possibilities. Just though I'd ask the broader public in the meantime.

As far as I know you need a subscription for the app to work in every case so I didn't bother as I just used it to pit stuff on my watchlist for later.

You don't need a subscription for remote play if the server has Plex Pass. You should be able to at least test browser/app functionality on your own, and setup a new account for testing.

Oh, I know that. Thats my Problem. Me and my friend(b) both don't have remote pass. But friend(b) is able to watch without problems.

I just tried to watch something trough the app and the popup came again but this time it didn't display the price at al all just "/month".

Same thing happens if you uninstall and reinstall the app? What version is the app, is it behind your friends? Are you able to remote stream on the browser

Still happens after reinstalling the phone app.

We use the webapp so it is the same.

I am able to stream audiobooks trough the webapp but I read that audio books are except from the remote pass anyway.

Tried to download the desktop app but it won't display. So I tried to figure out what's up with that. Guess it has something todo with Wayland/x11 on EOS/KDE but I'm getting pretty frustrated/tired right now.
