this fucking bill includes a 100$ fee (that will increase matched to inflation) to declare asylum at the border. The government IS the cartel.
And people will probably pay that fee only to get sent to a detention camp or worse.

Trump got about the same number of votes in 2024 as he did when he lost back in 2020, whereas Harris got fewer votes than Biden did, so strictly speaking we are getting exactly what all too many of us didn't vote for.

Maybe keeping in a geriatric neoliberal long enough to skip a primary and force a candidate no one voted for down our throats wasn't the best choice. Obviously Trump is worse than Harris but if the goal was to drive turnout then the Dems behavior pre-election is about the worst possible strategy I could think of.

That's absolutely not true. Trump got 74 million votes in 2020 and 77 million votes in 2024. If he got the 2020 numbers he would have lost the popular vote

These are the numbers from Wikipedia. It still fucks me up that Trump increased his vote margins, even to the point of winning the popular vote. It's probably going to haunt me to my grave and be a thing that I deeply wish wasn't true, but there it is.
What I ought to have said was that comparing 2024 to 2016, it's not that Democratic support fell off precipitously, but rather that a lot of people showed up in 2020 to vote for Biden, and then a lot of them stayed home in 2024.
Trump gained some, and that fucking sucks, but apathy and disengagement is a big factor in what got him back in the White House.

True. Don’t forget longstanding disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, and voter intimidation. It’s also true democrats ‘vote for us, we’re not republicans’ is the laziest campaign slogan and the most their billionaire mega donors will allow. Also Trump has a cult of personality which due to its nature is able to more or less grow continuously. It's growth between 2020 and 2024 can be easily explained by folks who were kids during his first term and are surrounded by kin and kith who are also in the personality cult.
Someone who was 10 in 2016 was 14 in 2020 and were 18 in 2024.

A system informed those voters to vote through propaganda, or in many places, made it difficult or impossible to vote. We got to start blaming the people with the money and lobby power instead of each other. Fuck trump and his supporters, but most especially the billionaires who paved the road to his election.
The system didn't make it difficult or impossible for eighty million people to vote that's just people not caring enough to get out there and do it.

Besides, a government so openly corrupt that we are the entire reason the term "banana Republic" exists is a pretty clear sign that our so called "democratic" system is, and always has been, a fucking farce.

Hell, the first system of government they created accidentally left too much power in the hands of the people, so the Constitution was drafted in secret and without any legal authority. That alone speaks volumes.

Whatever your and my feelings are regarding national vs federal governments aside, I feel it’s important to point out that the expressed purpose of the electoral college is to guarantee that the states and not the people elect the president. It’s a specifically federal institution doing exactly what it was designed to do.
I think a big part of the problem is that as states have become less democratic people have turned to the federal government expecting it to act like a national one when it isn’t wholly. All of this attention on DC has taken attention away from things like gerrymandering which happen at a state level. This coup started at the bottom not the top.
I think the problem is far simpler; a system designed by so-called elites who viewed the citizenry as inferior. So they explicitly rejected democracy and chose to create a republic in order to be certain only those deemed "worthy" would actually hold power.
Unfortunately Trump didn't just win the electoral college but he also won the popular vote.

What was inflation like during Biden's presidency? I agree that Biden did some good things but framing him as fantastic is a bit much, especially to the average person who doesn't give a shit about most of the stuff he did. American voters are supremely selfish and Biden didn't do much for them, at least not in an immediately visible way which is what he needed to do.
Just look at what's happening now. There's tons of bad things happening currently that I would call highly visible and polls consistently show that most Americans have no idea that any of it is going on. Biden made some solid efforts but almost none of it spoke to people on a personal level and that was his big failure. He thought Americans were paying attention when he needed to go out and grab their attention.
Inflation was bad worldwide and he was fantastic especially when you compare it to this shitshow.
You're arguing from an informed and logical perspective. That's not how modern elections work in the US. Voters didn't know or care that inflation was worse in other places. They knew they were getting fucked in a back alley and Biden wasn't helping them put their pants back on. That's really all there is to it.
