Did none of you read the articles. Its for now playing feature. The one that scan music in the background and display on your lockscreen. Before this, it's just the artist and track name.

cmgvd3lw@discuss.tchncs.de yes. Lock screen widgets went away after Android 7, I think. Now, 8(?) years later, we can introduce it as new feature!

Damn just like my iPod classic.

Ridiculously good hardware from Apple BTW. Also such a difference between iPod classic (not planned obsolete) and later I phones (made for planned obsolete)

I don't think this means what you think it means; music players have album art anyway but this is for now playing which is basically Shazam built into Pixel phone lock screen

Oh I see, so really the issue is that Google is bad at naming things. I instantly knew what Shazam was but never heard of now playing despite owning a pixel phone since the 1st one launched
