Rule 1 and 5 I agree because those are not memes (like screenshots from xitter, that's not a fucking meme). They can be funny or worth sharing, but they are not memes.
Rule 4 because those are just lame and boring.

Rule 2 meh.
Rule 6 I agree when the same one has been constantly posted by karma-farmers or when the image/video has been compresed, censored and watermarked to death.

But rule 3... A meme is something that managed to go viral, by definition it got so used that everyone and their mother knows about it and how to use it... It's meant to be overused (until brands use it, then it's dead).

Idgaf what anyone shares as a "meme." I like the sharing. Even the overused templates remind me of better days. The tiktoks are ok too. It’s not like I’m using the app so it’s the only time I’ll ever see it.

Let others have joy. You can block people you don’t like, hide communities that aren’t working for you, or just scroll on by.

The Lemmyverse isn't so large and healthy yet that we should starve it arbitrarily for medium quality stuff in the occasional groan take your upvote.

Stopping AI slop is reasonable but I beg we don't get too awfully picky while we're becoming reddit 3.0 without the numbers.

Meta memes? Straight to jail.

You're missing out. There are some great leftist creators that help organize on tiktok.

[–] BussyCat@lemmy.world 12 points 21 hours ago

It’s not about it being left or right it’s about it being a format that some people don’t like. I personally despise yt shorts, tiktok, vine, etc

I’m finding no matches for this image or some text on it, so it seems like you made this meme and posted it onto a forum which has only a couple of those criteria as its actual rules. Is this just bad faith smear campaigning to stir shit against this community and/or its mods?

Rule 3 is also the only one of these rules that is the slightest bit dubious. The rest are justifiable for most audiences and mod teams, assuming there’d be a reasonable time limit to when reposting would be permissible.

There are suitable subforums for most of those, but they’re typically bothersome in a general meme page for both audiences and mods

Nah, political scientists say everything is political. And since people like memes, they must like political memes, which is all memes

[–] s@piefed.world 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Sigh… You’re being difficultly obdurate and pedantic. Let’s say “No overtly and/or directly political memes” then.

Well memes are like movies, right? And the most popular movies are very political. Like Star Wars or Citizen Kane. I think people like politics. Whatever thing they don't like that you've noticed, I don't think it's politics. I think it's something else that looks like politics.

Way to really own that Sheldon role.

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 5 points 22 hours ago

Bazinga, amirite?

I think every meme is political. That's the point of a meme.

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did they ever have a meaning?

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 11 points 1 day ago

No referencing Big Bang Theory meme

[–] Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What community are you referring to?

[–] Brainsploosh@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

And yet, plenty of memes to be had, shared, created, evolved and enjoyed.

Seems a skill issue?

[–] lemjukes@sopuli.xyz 5 points 22 hours ago

Seems like pedantry

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, after eliminating all those, what's left?

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 1 day ago
