I am so torn in my opinion of these hire bike schemes that seem so popular now.

On one hand it is great that they are so readily available to encourage people to get out there and not use their car to get around, especially for people that don't have room to store a bike.

On the other hand they are dumped absolutely everywhere, as this article mentions and a good 50%+ that I see being used are being ridden like cunts. People endangering themselves by ignoring road rules and others by riding on pavements.

I'm torn xD

Isn't it better to have specific stations where you can leave them and pick them back up?

I've seen that model in Bogota, Buenos Aires and Tokyo, and people still absolutely use them all the time and they don't make as much of a mess. It's pretty good.
