Pictured from distribution Center in Baldwin Park, CA. They’ve been flying this flag for years. This hasn’t gotten much attention but In n out also was anti-vax and anti-lockdown during COVID. The CEO also recently went on a right wing podcast to announce they’re moving the HQ to Tennessee but backed out after getting backlash. They would wave the MAGA flag if they knew they wouldn’t get in trouble for it but are ‘softballing’ with the Don’t Tread On Me flag.

Anyone who still thinks the flag isn’t right wing and is meant to represent anti tyranny clearly hasn’t been paying attention to politics the last few years. This is the same way the Swastika was a symbol for peace , it was co opted by Nazis. I personally will stop eating at In-N-Out. Will save me some calories at least.

The Gadsen Flag is not a right wing flag. It is a Revolutionary War flag flown by a small subset of dumb fascists who don't have a fucking clue as to its history or actual meaning. Is the American flag a right wing flag because a lot of MAGA stupid fucks fly it from their trucks? No, it is not. Push back against idiocy. Know the history and learn those dummies a lesson when they fly it.

So when do we boycott Apple for kissing Trump's ass and bending over to his wishes?

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ive never given Apple a dime, so... your turn.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

We should start pranking the Apple stores and get all their phones to do something stupid all at once. That would be awesome.

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

People don't boycott shit (in America), and they only pretend to with things they don't like all that much.

[–] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I haven't purchased a Nintendo product in 5 years even though my hands down favorite games have all been Nintendo. I suffer quietly.

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You and I are in the minority. I just said it with such a matter of factness because the vast majority of people in America won't actually give up things they like for any significant and meaningful amount of time, even for a good reason

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 1 points 1 day ago

I've been boycotting Nintendo for a quarter of a century. But I do still have my original NES and N64. At least buying used cartridges doesn't give them any money.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So all those Lemmy posts before about people boycotting Target et. al were just for show? So can I go and back to Target now?

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean, yeah, sorta. Lemmy is absolutely tiny, and what the majority of people here say or are saying is definitely not a good indicator if that's actually the popular or even significant opinion elsewhere.

Now the particular thing you were describing could have been a bigger thing culturally, but I don't actually know because I don't use anything really besides Lemmy, either way though, I would wager a significant amount of money that the majority of people that participated in that are now back to shopping at Target.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like either way I'm a poser now. I just can't help but notice the women that go to target over walmart. It's not such a tough decision when I think about it like that. Also not offense to Walmart shoppers. I personally shop at Walmart but I was avoiding Target because I thought we were all doing it.

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 1 points 14 hours ago

Well, I mean, you should still stick to your principles and do what you think is right. That's still important at the end of the day.

I'm flabbergasted that any corporation would wear its political affiliation on its sleeve and risk losing as much as half of their customers. This is especially true for smaller businesses like plumbers or general contractors. It's a really dumb move.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 48 points 3 days ago (4 children)

ChickFila does and it is wild to me that so many people don't care.

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Gotta say, the only reason I ever buy CFA is because my son has a gluten and dairy allergy and they are legit one of the only fast food places that have GF Fries and an entree that will suffer a young kid’s palette.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 38 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is why these awful companies maintain customers. You think "yeah they're bad, but my convenience" and give them your money.

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Probably a bit of a milquetoast reply, but there is NO FUCKING ETHICAL CONSUMPTION UNDER CAPITALISM.

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Let my son enjoy shit that you take for granted.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Oh fuck off with this. This is such a cop out. This is like saying since we can't do anything perfectly, we should all just never try at all.

This said, you do you. Pick your battles.

Maybe consider donating some money to some LGBTQ+ causes since you're supporting a group that donates to and perpetuates causes like straights-only marriage and conversion therapy.

Your son and you can enjoy anything and everything you want. I don't expect you or anyone else to change, but that doesn't change the fact that you're willingly participating at the expense of others for your own comfort.

You don't know anything about me or what I take for granted. You don't know what I've given up all in order to lessen my impact on others, or the shame I feel when I fail. Enjoy your fries.

[–] techt@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I don't think that's what milquetoast means, but maybe I missed the sarcasm (sorry). Saying no ethical consumption exists under capitalism isn't really making any kind of point in response to that -- just trying to understand here, but are you saying that for that reason, all consumption is equally ethical? That might be more interesting to talk about, and less thought-terminating. I hope your kid is doing well; I know how restrictive that diet can be.

They're was a time where they were the best place to get chicken sandwiches. That time has long since passed.

Don't they have Bible verses on their cups? Or is that another place? Definitely remember something putting me off from them the first time I had it (that wasn't related to their food)

[–] half_fiction@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You're right. That's them with the bible verses printed at the bottom of their cups.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Trijicon got into trouble during the Afghan invasion for putting bible references on acogs provided under contract which should have cost them the contract and any profit from it but somehow didn't.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trijicon_biblical_verses_controversy

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The bottom? Is the verse "thou shall pour soda in thine lap"?

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Cook-Out in North Carolina has Bible quotes on their cups. Last I recall it was Psalm 118:24, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it," which is fairly anodyne. I haven't really heard much else about Cook-Out's political leanings, and if at all possible I'd like it to stay that way. I really like their shakes.

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Fuck In-N-Out, Five Guys is superior and as someone on the east coast I can acturally eat there.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Seriously? Five guys and $50 dollars later you get kind of a steamed mess little hamburger. And don't get me started about how bad the fries are.

I wouldn't bother with either place. Nearly everywhere has a good hamburger, you gotta look around, but it is never a chain.

load more comments (2 replies)

Agreed. Five guys is much better and consistent and tasty if you are ok with a messy meal. Fries actually taste like real potatos too.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Five Guys is fine... I do love their cajun fries though, and they give you so many

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

I thought this was pretty common knowledge that In/Out has always been owned by fundies but they were lowkey until Tea party/Trump came around and I been avoiding them ever since so I can't boycott any harder.

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I had no idea they were right-wing assholes until 2021 when masks were mandated and bodies were being stacked in refrigerated trailers all over the country. I walked into an In-N-Out in CA and not one of their employees had a mask on. Every single customer who wasn't eating did.

I wonder how many people In-N-Out is directly responsible for putting in the morgue with their fundamentalist, right wing bullshit? Not that they would give a damn. Evangelicals don't give a shit about anyone outside their cult.

Haven't been back since.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 24 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Til, but even before I knew this, in-and-out is way way over hyped. Like someone else said, their fries are like styrofoam. Old, brittle styrofoam. The patties are comically thin and if they weren't salted to hell and back they wouldn't have any flavor at all. Seriously, ignoring social issues and just speaking of the food, they're my least favorite fast food place, I'd rather eat anything else

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I’ve never been a huge fan of the food, but it was my understanding from friends in that line of work that they treat their employees above average.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I don't know how the staff like their jobs, but one thing I will say is that everytime I've visited an in-n-out there was a ton of staff and they worked with and around eachother like a well-oiled machine. I'd walk in to a huge line of customers and see it collapse in only a couple of minutes. They moved. But alas, the food's ass

Thank you, good to know

[–] workerONE@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Apparently they've been flying this flag since 2007 before trumpets existed, according to Google Street view history

[–] doingthestuff@lemy.lol 2 points 2 days ago

I wish they were in my area, I'd eat the hell out of that.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

gee, so they've held to that bullshit as it became the symbol of the alt-right shitwads? that's even more gross... somehow

[–] moakley@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (4 children)

An In-N-Out opened near me a few years ago, (just outside Houston) and every once in a while I decide to give it another try, and it's just a garbage-tier burger every time.

I heard for years about a secret menu, but how the fuck is there a secret menu when there's only five ingredients to choose from? What kind of burger place doesn't even have bacon? Or mayonnaise?? My go-to burger is cheese, bacon, mayo, and grilled onions (if available). In-N-Out has none of that except for cheese and an unremarkable and flavorless patty of beef. And yes, I've tried ordering a burger directly off the menu. It wasn't good.

I love a good burger. I seek them out. In my small city I can think of seven burgers off the top of my head that I'd choose before I ever give In-N-Out another chance, and a handful more that I haven't had a chance to try. It wasn't the worst burger I've ever had, but it was by far the most disappointing.

All that to say, I already wasn't going there again, but now I'll do it even louder.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I agree with pretty much every word. And to top it off, their fries are worse than their burgers.

I'm so confused. Did the ownership sell recently? I met them in 2013 and they were delightful. Talked about how grateful they are for all of their employees and how they want to make sure everyone is paid a living wage and can go to school and how they would be nothing as managers and directors and owners without their workers. What changed?!

[–] breecher@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

What changed?!

They became aware that they didn't have to lie anymore in today political climate?

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Racism and assholishness became socially acceptable.

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

In-n-out is absolute trash. Everytime i visit cali i give it a shot and I'm like, yup still taste like shit. Id rather have a gas station hamburger than wait through the line for a shit burger.
