On August 28 and 29, California Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled two sweeping initiatives that together mark a sharp rightward turn in state policy and expose the Democratic Party’s deepening complicity in the destruction of democratic rights. As he portrays himself as a bulwark against President Trump, Newsom is in fact laying the foundation for a massive expansion of state power against the working class and the poor.

Under the guise of public safety and compassion, the Democratic governor has placed the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at the center of two major new enforcement regimes: a statewide “crime suppression” expansion and a “homeless encampment clearance” task force.

These measures are being marketed as alternatives to Trump’s deployments of federal forces into major U.S. cities, but in substance, they mirror their basic functions. Far from opposing the authoritarian measures emanating from Washington, Newsom’s actions mimic them, signaling a growing alignment between the Democratic Party and the Trump administration on the fundamental issue: the use of state repression to deal with the social crisis created by capitalism.

Oh, fuck right off with this bullshit. I could easily write a similarly toned article about how bad the best person in the world is because their hand is being forced to counteract the bullshit Trump is pulling.

I'm not saying Newsom is a great person or anything, but the main points of this article are nitpicky whiny bullshit from a viewpoint of somebody who regularly complains how the world isn't "right" because it's not totally socialist. You're not being wronged here, author, there's other more terrible things at work here, and this the best outcome at play right now.

Why not try and write an article with some constructive criticism of new ideas instead of complaining like a petulant child that you're not getting EXACTLY what you want at all times. I'm not being pedantic, go look at this authors other "articles".

Dafuq outta here.

It's the purest form of irony that the author complains about DNC complicity with Trump while citing actions that directly oppose Trump as bad, and while WSWS themselves have absolutely no plans for how to oppose Trump now or in the midterms.

They've got articles from election year claiming "DNC offers War, Trump offers Dictatorship" like yeah bro, I'm sure that stance will help the situation.

I'm sick of the diet fascists telling the rest of us that "better than Trump" is the best we can do. That some meme tweets purchased by human dental-work is all the revolution we can expect.

The acceptable amount of fascism is zero. Anything else is just a willingness to trade one vulnerable group for another. In the service of power. I'm glad you can trade trans people, Palestinians, or the homeless like Pokemon cards. But I see it as an abandonment of core values.

The reason why you're not connecting with people is exactly what you're saying.

If you're driving down the highway, and another car jumps the median and ends up driving right towards your car, you're going to bitch and moan about it instead of taking the best corrective action available to you.

You're exac5like the MAGA assholes who think you have the "right" idea, and therefore refuse to compromise deciate from whatever plan you think you have. This is super clear from your "diet fascists" comment, and I'm positive you don't even know what a fascist is, except people who are doing something aside from what you seem to be the "right" thing.

Not only would you be a terrible representative for a group of people with that attitude, you'd end up exactly where the true fascist assholes are, because you're just an opposite asshole of them. You have no true ideas on how to work against the opposing viewpoints, you just somehow know yours is correct.

That's foolish.
