"You're free to race" after manipulating the race so your favorite driver wins out. Fuck McLaren and Lando. No team orders to swap at Silverstone btw.

I hope Oscar wins the championship to spite them.

What exactly did Lando do wrong here? He never requested the swap or said anything about it. Not entirely sure how Silverstone is relevant as that was Piastri's mistake not the teams.

In Silverstone Piastri said that if the team thinks he did nothing wrong then they should let him swap with Lando but Lando wasn't told to give the position back. At Monza Lando did nothing wrong but Piastri was told to give the position back. Which means either McLaren thought Piastri deserved his 10 second penalty or they prefer Lando over Piastri. I'm not saying McLaren is definitely preferring one driver over the other, but it is starting to look like it.

The McLaren team have positioned themselves as the arbiter of fairness. If it's about being fair and they thought Piastri did nothing wrong they should have restored fairness too.

Lando did nothing unusual wrong but from replaying his pit stop a bit, it looked like he didn't drive neatly in the lines, which can cause problems for the mechanics. Though if someone has the true top-down view from that I'm happy to change that view.

Ofcourse the problem is their arbitrary interference in the race which seemingly seems to benefit mostly one driver when it comes to the 2025 WDC.

So I only half watched the race today as The International (Dota 2 eSports tournament) is going on and I was keeping an eye on the matches, but it seems I picked the right race to not pay attention. Looks like the most exciting thing this race beside the first few laps was McLaren team ordering Norris and Piastri?

[โ€“] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Pretty much. A great few first laps, then Max pulling away took away any drama for the win. A couple fun moments further back, especially Alonso and Bortoleto.

Alonso DNFing with another mechanical failure isn't my notion of fun, but I guess he did have a great start yeah. Albon also the only one of the Hard starters to come out ahead, I guess all the rest just tried holding out for a safety car until the end?

Was the McLaren swap fair?

[โ€“] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago

No. They didn't have team orders to swap at Silverstone.

[โ€“] Munkisquisher@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, it was the team fixing their own fuck up

[โ€“] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

But then do they also need to โ€˜fixโ€™ Landoโ€™s mechanical failure? Sometimes it is part of racing!

[โ€“] smeg@feddit.uk 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

A hard decision to make, but the opinion from commentary was that Lando had chosen to give Oscar the first pit stop specifically to help him cover Charles so they probably felt bad that helping his teammate cost him

[โ€“] Jacob93@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

So stupid that Lando still worried about Oscar! If he wants to win this championship then he has to stop trying to help the leader

[โ€“] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 4 weeks ago

It's a team sport, I think I heard a quote attributed to one of them saying something like "I won't be able to win without the team on my side"
