I was recently using this fork before it was recently archived. It seems that every dev who puts their hand on it quickly backtracks (understandably so) that it became almost like a curse. Anyways, is anybody aware of a fork that it is still actively developed and maintained? Thanks.

P.S. I know there are other open source apps with a similar function, but I am looking specifically for the unique design which ViMusic has for its UI.

Not a fork but a similar app that is supported is OuterTune

ah yes the vimusic - > rimusic - > kreate pipeline

i started using metrolist when rimusic went unmaintained but i still keep kreate around. for now it's the vimusic fork that's being maintained

same for me, i also use Metrolist

Thanks for the recommendation! Just tried it after you mentioned metrolist and it's working perfectly. Kreate kept crashing and stopping.

I've been using Kreate for a while, seems to be a fork of RiMusic

Thats what I have been using. Its based off RiMusic which was based off ViMusic.

Just adding a note. People should be able to backup your music in ViMusic or RiMusic and restore in Create. They seem to use the same database. Though I havent tried directly from ViMusic to Kreate. I went from ViMusic to RiMusic to Kreate.

Tested it out of curiosity. Restoring a vimusic backup crashes the app.

Thanks for testing that! I thought it might work but I was wrong. Guess people will have to do one to RiMusic first then Kreate. Hopfully that still works..

Is RiMusic dead?

Harmony music has been working well for me

[–] Tatar_Nobility@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Seems like this is the closest project to be still functioning. Thank you.

Is this a fork of RiMusic? RiMusic was good for me because could play my local songs.

[–] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If it helps, Metro works good for local music

[–] Amaterasu@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It does but is not maintained for quite a while now

[–] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, well that's a bummer 😕

Not what youre looking after but- I use newpipe as a peertube client, but since it supports youtube as well you can search yt music specifically and download a track in up to a 128kps .m4a of 160kps .opus file. I then use vlc for android to play em, and it works just fine :3 You may find a offline music player with a ui similar to vi as well!

Some minor gripes is that these files seemingly dont come with metadata, and you cant download a whole playlist or album at a time, both being huge bummers :/

That's what I used to do before opting for online streaming.

I'm pretty sure yt-dlp can do this. Why not try Seal on F-droid.
